Democracy triumphed today. Thank you to the ACLU activists who sent 213,733 emails to their representatives in the House and Senate demanding they reject the repeal of the ACA. We did it! #peoplepower#healthcare
SLIDESHOW: Students in a Utah GSA have been learning about our client #GavinGrimm and anti-trans laws that have been popping up in states across the country. Their members drew pictures and wrote letters to Gavin to let him know how much he has inspired them and that he has their support, and we wanted to share a few with all of you out there who are afraid of what these bills do to empower profiling and expelling trans and non-binary people from public spaces. The law is on your side and we're with you every step of the way ✊️ #StandWithGavin#transrights#lgbt#lgbtrights#transisbeautiful#gsa
With help from @freepress_fp, Demand Progress, and the Daily Kos, we delivered 90,000 petitions this morning to senators who will be key votes to #SaveBroadbandPrivacy this week! Congress will vote this week on whether or not to give in to industry pressure to overturn rules that protect customer privacy online. This would let your internet service providers auction your personal information off to the highest bidder — without your permission and without informing you. Tell your senators to protect privacy over profits. #peopleoverprofit#broadbandprivacy#netneutrality#aclu
Our smartphones and laptops store reams of private information about us. And yet the government claims your privacy rights don't apply at the border. We're fighting inconstitutional border searches, but in the meanwhile, these are things you can do to protect yourself. #knowyourrights#privacy#privacyplease#cellphone#laptop#borderpatrol
VICTORY! A federal court in Maryland issued an injunction blocking President Trump’s new Muslim ban executive order early this morning, just hours after a Hawaii court issued a nationwide injunction in a separate challenge. The American Civil Liberties Union and partner organizations are counsel in the suit and were in federal district court Wednesday seeking the injunction.
Omar Jadwat, director of the ACLU’s Immigrants’ Rights Project, who argued the case, had this reaction: “The Maryland district court has issued yet another strong judicial condemnation of President Trump’s unconstitutional Muslim ban. If, as promised, he continues to try to defend this indefensible order in the courts — or goes back to the first iteration of the ban — he will just keep losing.” #trump#nomuslimban#nobannowallnoraids#breakingnews#aclu#winning #
HONOLULU— A federal court in Hawaii has temporarily blocked President Trump’s new Muslim ban executive order before it was set to take effect one minute after midnight. In another challenge, the American Civil Liberties Union and partner organizations were in U.S District Court in Maryland today also asking the ban be halted.
Happy birthday to ACLU Women's Rights Project co-founder, Supreme Court justice, and dissenter goals Ruth Bader Ginsburg
We went to federal court this morning with our friends from the National Immigration Law Center and the International Refugee Assistance Project to halt #MuslimBan2, and expect a ruling as soon as today. No matter what happens, of course, we're going to keep fighting to put a stop to Trump's Muslim ban once and for all. #aclu#nomuslimban#nobannowallnoraids#nobannowall#trump#resist#peoplepower via Karen Tumlin, legal director of the NILC
As President Trump goes about his hate agenda, we need to live our love. Whatever he's doing, let's have an equal and opposite reaction. ACLU's national political director Faiz Shakir has a few specific ideas of how you can go about that—
