It's the 16th Anniversary of the tragic events of September 11. I photographed the Twin Towers of Light the first time they illuminated the New York skyline, March 2002, six months after the towers fell. The photo was taken from the Empire State Building while I was on assignment for the Nat Geo. To the left of the lights you can see the glow of Ground Zero where the recovery operation was still going on. I am posting this photo as a memorial to those who perished and a tribute to those who survived. #9/11 #twintowers#wtc#newyork#sept11@thephotosociety@natgeo@natgeocreative
As the moon begins to set the first glow of sunrise illuminates a building in Ouarzazat, Morocco. This ancient Moroccan city is at the edge of the Sahara Desert in south central Morocco on a high plateau - 1160 meters - near the Atlas Mountains. Its many ancient Kasbahs and history are an attraction, however, the city is now famous for all the motion picture production studios located here. Lawrence of Arabia was filmed here along with Gladiator, the Last Temptation of Christ and many other well-known films. Tom Cruise filmed part of Mission Impossible 5 here a few years ago. And of course, the HBO series Game of Thrones uses this location for a lot of it scenes. @natgeo@thephotosociety@natgeocreative .
While I was walking through the Medina in Fez, Morocco, I startled one of many stray cats who make it their home. The Medina of Fez, a walled city, was founded in the 9th century and is a UNESCO world heritage site. It's original name is Fes el Bali, which means old Fes. All my students know I don't usually shoot dogs or cats, but I could not pass up this one@thephotosociety@natgeo@natgeocreative#fez#morocco#medina#catstagram#cats#feselbali
Polar bear skins hang out to dry on the island of Little Diomede in the Bering Stait between Alaska and Russia. The locals on this island lead a subsistence life, harvesting fish and crab, hunting beluga whales, walrus, seals and polar bears. Almost every part of the animal is used for food, for clothing, mukluks, even boats @natgeo@thephotosociety@natgeocreative#littlediomede#polarbear#subsistence#alaska
