I had the honor of sitting with and soaking in all the excellence -- and realness -- that is @tarajiphenson whom I interviewed for the October issue of @marieclairemag where she discusses her hustle, her talent and her legacy. She says, "I love black people. I love telling stories. I want these little girls to study me like I studied Meryl and Bette Davis and Carol Burnett. I want them to study my work, because I put a lot of work in, a lot of blood, sweat, and tears."

No human is illegal. Period. We must show up and fight alongside our undocumented siblings, including the 800K plus Dreamers who are among those currently targeted and scapegoated by Trump who made yet another inhumane move to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA). It's vital that we pushback, resist and contribute however we can to #DefendDACA: HIT the streets, CALL your representatives (callmycongress.com) and/or DONATE to grassroots orgs (here are just some queer/trans-inclusive suggestions: @maketheroadny@familiatqlm@translatinacoalition@ellaparatranslatinas) and individuals needing direct access to funds. ¡Si, Se Puede!
My kangaroo love story. It was one-sided, and a complete dream.
Had a ball speaking at the legendary @sydneyoperahouse for the #ANTIDOTE festival. Thanks to each of you Aussies who gassed your girl up!
Much appreciation to @rollingstone for recognizing me as one of 18 (though there are thousands!!!) Women of the Future "shaping the culture of tomorrow." The feature can be seen in its Sept 7th issue on newsstands now.

On the invitation of EIC @nickkharamis, I jumped on the phone with @kimkardashian to discuss family, beauty and business for the September issue of @interviewmag. Our conversation, edited and condensed, is on newsstands now.
Oh and some much-needed editorial context for readers: Interview Magazine from its inception has paired prominent people together for conversations, and as a pop culture fan and journalist, I relished in the opportunity to speak with Kim. Many are upset by photographer Steven Klein's photoshoot which places KKW in the context of another well-watched American mother, former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. I did not have a hand in the photoshoot or write the headlines or introduction to our interview.
Many are upset that I even had a conversation with Kim. I, like millions around the globe, have been fascinated by Kim's ability to put it all out there and make a living by being herself. Plus, I'm a journalist and talking to people is part of the work I love doing.
Many are upset that I stated to KKW: "You are a beauty icon, because you’ve challenged standards of beauty to make it a bit browner, a bit bronzer, a bit curvier. I wonder how conscious you are of raising a mixed black girl in the world?" I should NOT have said BROWNER. Period. I should have clearly stated my line of questioning in the context of the women who dominated reality TV before KKW: Paris Hilton, Jessica Simpson and Lauren Conrad, all thin, blonde, pale white women. My intent was never to erase black women whose pioneering beauty made a space for me and so many others. I apologize for that.
With all that said, I did lead a one-hour conversation with one of the world's most famous and fascinating women over the phone in July (before the Starr controversy). We spoke about family, privacy, business and surrounding her black children with affirmative images.
Proud of my love @andrewfitzsimons for marking his 30th birthday with the launch of a vital initiative, the Trans Cosmetic Donation Program in partnership with the Trans Economic Empowerment Project (TEEP) and @lalgbtcenter. This program acts a bridge, accepting beauty and wellness products as donations, and distributing them to organizations that work with trans women and gender nonconforming folk.

Listen to the season finale of my podcast #NeverBefore with @krisjenner. And yes, I got to use her luxe black toilet paper and it was DIVINE.
Appeared at the Television Critics Association's press tour yesterday to promote the new season of @pbs' FINDING YOUR ROOTS, created and hosted by @henrylouisgates, who gave me the gift of linking me to my ancestors through genealogy and DNA. Plus I got to sit next to TV legend @TedDanson!
SWEETEST time interviewing @peppermint247 who broke ground as the first trans woman to make it to the finale of #DragRace. We discuss her beauty journey through drag for my @allure column, BEAUTY BEYOND BINARIES. Read it at Allure.com! @_hannahchoi
Trump's decision to ban trans people in the military is trolling at its finest from a man who's never served & shown up the way trans servicefolk have and continue to.
Of course, there are many ways to serve our communities and our country. Trans folk have done vital work, putting their bodies on the line (unlike Trump). I salute people like Shane Alejandro Ortega who've fought for a country whose president (and many citizens) won't fight for them.
Instead this president and his administration continues to use the bodies and lives of trans folks as scapegoats in another non-issue (military, bathrooms, etc) to distract from his own shortcomings and to further contribute to a polarizing political environment.
Again, I salute Shane Ortega who've sacrificed and worked tirelessly to serve & create space for trans folk who want to serve. @tgs
