The Arctic Refuge is one of the world’s last untouched wild places. Home to polar bears, more than 200 species of birds, and the calving grounds of the Porcupine Caribou Herd, the Refuge has sustained the Gwich’in Nation for millennia.
Now that it’s facing the greatest threats in decades, we must work even harder to keep Big Oil and their drilling rigs out of the Refuge.
Go to sc.org/anwrzinke and tell Secretary Zinke to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge!
We're sharing stories of some of our stellar volunteers this National #VolunteerWeek!

Seven years ago, an explosion on BP’s #DeepwaterHorizon oil rig took 11 lives and led to the largest offshore oil spill in US history, forever changing families, the Gulf, and the community. Damages are still being felt from the 210 million gallons of oil that flowed out for 87 days.

"On Earth Day in 1970 while my mom was pregnant with me, my dad gave up smoking. Since then, this day has become synonymous in our family with respecting our bodies and our planet -- to celebrate and respect our surroundings, to revel in what we can experience outdoors, and to find joy in breathing in deeply in our little corner which connects us with the world." - @nelsonkirsten

Very soon (Earth Day), I will be opening my first ever, fine art gallery in New York City. It's a lifelong dream to have a gallery of my own in a place where my message of art, purpose and adventure can resonate around the globe. Most importantly, I will be having visiting artists with a similar passion for making a difference with their photography. NYC is that place to make this happen. Please stay tuned for information on the gallery opening. I'll be there. I hope to see you there on April 22nd at 347 West Broadway, NYC. #dreamsdocometrue#artscienceconservation#nature#naturelovers#gallery#fineart

"In the Washington, D.C. region, within the working-class neighborhoods I grew up in and where my family still resides, the residents have experienced and will continue to experience the most burden of climate change stressors, according to Washington, D.C.’s Climate Adaptation and Preparedness Plan.
Our schools, housing, recreation centers, and hospitals are all at extreme risk of floods. And our Seniors who are more sensitive to high temperatures will be left in devastating situations.
I’ll be at the march and on the front-lines with other D.C. residents because I care about the future of the neighborhoods I grew up in, and my family and friends who still have to carry that burden of climate change." - @jeremiah_lowerydc, Chesapeake Climate Action Network
