This is what Keisha’s mom has to say about her daughter after her Smile Train free cleft surgery:
“Keisha used to be silent in school, but now she has the confidence to speak up in class. Before her surgeries and speech therapy, she never had the courage to leave the house and meet other children, but now she plays games with her friends all day long. Keisha is bright, bubbly, and happy – a far cry from how she felt before.”
When Julie Ann was growing up, she was afraid to leave her house because of her untreated cleft. Not only were children cruel to her, but she was even teased by some adults. Julie Ann’s mother knew what this felt like, because she was also born with a cleft. Fortunately, after surgery, Julie Ann began to feel more comfortable in her community and the teasing stopped. Now she has a beautiful smile and her mother reminds her to always to be kind to everyone, regardless of how they look. #TransformationTuesday
