Moki Dugway, Utah • Gateway to the Bear Ears. The Bears Ears National Monument has been in the spotlight ever since the Trump administration set its sights on the National Monument designated by President Barack Obama in 2016. The Bears Ears is the only monument designated at the request of a coalition of Native American tribes: Navajo, Hopi, Zuni and Ute. Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke recently submitted his recommendation to significantly downsize the protected area, which holds strong cultural significance for neighboring tribes with historical ties to the region. This image is from an ongoing personal project on the American Southwest — it's people, landscapes and culture.
Pleased to have an off day to hike and relax today. Gotta try and do a long run one of these days, for now I hope hikes help! Sorry this photo is super similar to another post from recent but it's such a cool spot I had to share 2!

Photo by @argonautphoto (Aaron Huey). Afternoon "monsoons" in Utah all this week as I start a new assignment for @NatGeo in #BearsEarsNationalMonument, one of the hotly contested National Monuments that the current administration wants to rescind. Headed into another great unknown with this shoot!!! Follow @argonautphoto to see the journey!
I tried crack the other day. It was pretty addicting. Hopefully headed back to the creek soon! Here is @tylerhabbe resting on M.C.Hammer 5.11-
Never before has a presidential administration considered such an outrageous assault on protected public lands. If Trump acts unilaterally on Zinke's recommendations, he'll be using legal authority he does not have, and it will not stand.
