Movie star Harrsion Ford and Ford Motor Company Executive Chairman Bill Ford share more in common than their last names. Thy met when both served on the board of Conservation International in the early 1990s. “We both were surprised that each of us had this green leaning,” says Bill Ford, “It wasn’t common in my industry, and, frankly, it wasn’t that common in Hollywood back then, either.” As soon as hellos were traded during a recent phone conversation, the two were off and running on everything from electric cars to pollution-eating plants. #harrisonford#conservationinternational
In honor of the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, here's a photo from #APMissionRajaAmpat where our team got to know the people behind these wonderful smiles on Arborek Island of Raja Ampat in Indonesia. These children are dressed for a musical performance portraying the importance of respecting animals and not fishing and hunting in certain areas of the ocean. @conservationorg has worked with those on Arbokek Island to pioneer connections between tribal conservation knowledge and modern “manta-economics”, and the progress they have made is evident in the youth ethos and the abundance of marine life surrounding this small island.
“By partnering with CI and the Sustainable Coffee Challenge, S&D is helping lead the way to transform the coffee sector and raise the profile of sustainable coffee..." -- @conservationorg Bambi Semroc. Find the link to this recent announcement in our profile.

Why did you want to become a SACNAS member? Back in 2003 (14 years ago!!!), one of my undergrad advisors, Dr. Aaron Velasco and friend Edith Jaurrieta, pushed me into a bus heading to the SACNAS conference in Albuquerque, NM. They said it would benefit my career, it did!!! Hopes for Membership: professional development, networking, mentorship, community building, volunteering, etc.
Little Known Fact: I founded the SACNAS UTEP chapter back in 2004 and have been involved in every SACNAS chapter throughout my education, University of Washington and Arizona State University!
"Some call me Nature.
Others call me – Mother Nature.
I’ve been here for over four and a half billion years.
22,500 times longer than you.
I don’t really need people.
But people need me.
Yes, your future depends on me.
When I thrive, you thrive.
When I falter, you falter.
But I have been here for eons.
I have fed species greater than you.
And I have starved species greater than you.
My flowing streams.
They all can take you, or leave you.
How you choose to live each day, whether you regard or disregard me.
Doesn’t really matter to me, one way or the other.
Your actions will determine your fate.
I am nature, I will go on.
I am prepared to evolve.
Are you?" #conservationinternational
"Look up. There I am. I am the Sky. I am a warm and protective blanket wrapped around everyone on Earth. I can bring clouds, rain and the wind.
I can be an ice storm. Without me, you'd fry.
Every day, I am the breath you take in, yet you are making me sick. I am congested, off-balance, polluted. You see, I am more delicate than you think. It took millions of years to get it just right — my perfect mix of gases, temperature and weather that you enjoy.
But now your cars, your factories and dust — they have pushed me past the limit. And you wonder why my typhoons and tornadoes are more intense, more frequent? I have become unpredictable. Less rain here, a lot more rain there. Hotter summers, colder winters. I cannot even control myself anymore. Enough about me. I will show my changing self to you in your days ahead. But in the end, I'll be fine. Give me a few thousand years. I have weathered trauma before. I am not worried for myself.
"I am the Ocean. I am water l. I am most of this planet. I shaped it.
Every stream, every cloud, and everyraindrop
It all comes back to me. One way or another.
Every living thing here needs me
I am the source. I am what they crawled out of
Humans are not different. I don’t owe them a thing
I give, they take. But I can always take back.
That’s just the way it’s always been
It’s not their planet anyway. Never was, never will be
But humans, they take more than their share
They poison me, then they expect me to feed them
Well it doesn’t work that way
If humans want to exist in nature with me, and off of me
I suggest they listen close, I’m only gonna say this once
If nature isn’t kept healthy, humans won’t survive
Simple as that .
Me - I could give a damn, with or without humans,
I am the Ocean
I covered this entire planet once, and I can always cover it again" -Harrison Ford X #conservationinternational | #ocean#melbourne#downunder#australia#greatoceanroad
