Here are some inside pages~! All artworks were handdrawn and painted in watercolors. Easily the biggest watercolor pieces I’ve painted yet. The book will be used by PEF’s teachers to do storytelling sessions in classrooms and communities in remote eagle areas where there are no computers or projectors.
Wuhoo, some good news! Here’s the biiiiig book I illustrated, with Rai and Tine of the Philippine Eagle Foundation in Davao. Excited for this book to reach so many kids in the Eagle communities. “An Eagle’s Feather” is written by Minfong Ho based on a story by the PEF, illustrated under the Bartels Science Illustration Internship at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. We printed the book on rock paper so it’s tree-free, tear-resistant, and waterproof. It also comes with its own carrying bag. Thank you to everyone who helped make this project a reality! Extra special thanks to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology Multimedia Dept, Diane Tessaglia-Hymes, the Philippine Eagle Foundation, my fellow Bartels interns Misaki Ouchida, Liz Clayton Fuller, and Jane Kim, Studio Dialogo, and Superstar Printing
Sam and I have gotten into a lot of trouble together. We almost got attacked by rattlesnakes, covered in a swarm of deadly wasps, and today both of the wings fell of her prep bird. She's still a champ though.
