Remembering Elizabeth Taylor DBE
One of the first celebrities brave enough to put their head above the parapet and speak out about HIV & AIDS. We owe her a lot, an inspiration and a true humanitarian. Her legacy lives on with the Elizabeth Taylor Aids Foundation http://elizabethtayloraidsfoundation.org/. So many people world wide owe their lives to this very remarkable lady.
"It's bad enough that people are dying of AIDS,
but no one should die of ignorance."

Today is National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness day and #ETAF is honored to spotlight our collaboration with @greaterthanaids. ETAF helps support the inspiring stories of the Greater Than AIDS Empowered project where women use the power of their voices to remove stigma, empower their community to end HIV/AIDS, and combat urgent issues like intimate partner violence (IPV). One in three women experiences intimate partner violence. For women with #HIV, it is one in two. IPV, including physical violence, emotional abuse and/or controlling behavior, is a major issue for many women in the U.S. Less often discussed is the concerning connection with HIV. #BeBoldForChange#NWGHAAD#Empowered
#ETAF is proud to support @mothers2mothers in its 15-year anniversary! They're helping us making paramount strides reaching 90-90-90 in Malawi with their services. While tremendous progress has been made over the last decade to eliminate pediatric AIDS, more than 400 babies are still infected with HIV globally each day. About 75% of these children live in sub-Saharan Africa, and most acquire HIV from their mothers during pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. M2M trains, employs, and empowers local mothers living with HIV, called Mentor Mothers, as frontline healthcare workers in understaffed health centers and within communities. #BeBoldForChange#NWGHAAD
Agape International Missions was founded on the ground in Cambodia in 1988 as a humanitarian aid and church planting organization. Since 2005, their ministries have focused on ending of child sex trafficking. #ETAF is privileged to fund AIM providing HIV medical care for rescued girls who are living with #HIV. #BeBoldForChange#NWGHAAD
International Women & Girls Day lunch with my dear friend Kate Shindle who is currently starring starring in the tour of FUN HOME. We met in '98 when we were both speaking on the lecture circuit on HIV (me in "Friendship in the Age of AIDS with TJ Sullivan and her as Miss America '98 speaking truth about condoms, syringe exchange while wearing the crown). Now she joins #ETAF in our advocacy focus to reform HIV Criminalization laws.

In partnership with Global AIDS Interfaith Alliance (GAIA), an #ETAF grant to Grassroot Soccer - Malawi helped initiate a girls soccer league as a method of delivering #HIV prevention messages. Grassroot Soccer is an adolescent health organization that leverages the power of soccer to educate, inspire, and mobilize at-risk youth in developing countries to overcome their greatest health challenges, live healthier, more productive lives, and be agents for change in their communities. Their programs seek to address the unique needs of girls and young women, challenge negative gender norms, decrease gender-based violence, and engage boys and young men in creating more gender-equitable communities. @grassrootsoccer#BeBoldForChange#NWGHAAD#GirlPower (photo credit: Quinn Tivey) @quinntivey
An #ETAF grant to Girl Child Counseling Women Group in Eldoret, Kenya is curbing the spread of #HIV and #AIDS in the Mutunda area by providing door-to-door couples counseling and testing services. The GCCWG implemented a Couples Peer Health Educators workshop that brought together couples from 10 different villages in the Mutunda region and informed them on the importance of couples testing and counseling, prevention methods, treatment, and seeking care services. #BeBoldForChange#NWGHAAD
In honor of International Women’s and Girl’s Day (March 8th) and National Women’s and Girl’s HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (March 10th), #ETAF is spotlighting incredible women-focused programs we help fund and support in our back yard and around the world. #BeBoldForChange#NWGHAAD
#ETAF is honored to support the urgent work of Woman's Hospital in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. According to the CDC, Baton Rouge ranks second among major U.S. metro areas for new #HIV cases and first in new HIV cases among women ages 13-54. Established in 2002, Women’s Mother-to-Child HIV Transmission Prevention program at the Women’s Hospital focuses on preventing the transmission of HIV from mothers to newborns during birth. With this program, the chance of transmission can be decreased to less than two percent. @womanshospital
Happy Birthday to Elizabeth Taylor!!! Today I will wear a red ribbon to represent all of her hard work with the AIDS Foundation and to remember all of those who have passed on and who are still battling AIDS. Elizabeth was an incredible film star but she left her biggest impression in humanitarian services. Without her courageous efforts many people wouldn't have received the proper medical treatment they deserved to help them fight their battle against HIV and AIDS. She was a powerful voice for so many and a star unlike any other . #aidsfoundation#elizabethtaylor#happybirthdayelizabethtaylor#redribbon#etaf#elizabethtayloraidsfoundation
Elizabeth Taylor wore a red ribbon to the Oscars for the first time 25 years ago and today we celebrate what would have been her 85th birthday Catherine Opie who shot her personal collection of pins #elizabethtaylor#etaf#donate
