Releasing the critically endangered hawksbill turtle to the ocean. Only 1 in 150 survive. We can help increase their chances of survival by disposing our trash properly (which they commonly mistake for food) A simple act of mindfulness & responsibility goes a long way 🏼
Let's take a quick moment while we dry our wetsuits to acknowledge World Rhino Day. South Africa is on pace to lose 1,000 rhino to poaching for the fifth year in a row. At nearly three a day there is no time to spare. Act now!
We are pleased to be able to announce that #rhino calf has been born in #Akagera National Park! This is the first rhino to be born in #Rwanda in over a decade. The birth comes only months after the arrival of the founding population of 18 eastern black rhinos in May this year, a historic move to expand the range of the subspecies where less than 1,000 of these animals remain in the wild. The birth of this new calf serves as a story of hope for this critically #endangered species.
The dedicated rhino monitoring team first spotted the new calf in August. The mother, Ineza, would have been well into her 15 – 16 month long gestation period when arriving in Akagera earlier this year. Kimasa, Ineza’s previous calf, came with her from South Africa but at two and a half years old he has now left his mother and is venturing out on his own.
Today, 22nd September, is #WorldRhinoDay, an international day to celebrate all five species of rhinos and raise awareness on rhino #conservation worldwide. Share this #GoodNews story and spread the word about rhino conservation!
The translocation was undertaken by @africanparksnetwork, a conservation non-profit that manages national parks and protected areas on behalf of governments across the continent, in collaboration with the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) and with funding provided by the Howard G. Buffett Foundation. For more information visit www.rhinomove.org
Just two weeks before I return to host two weeks of back to back safaris at the Wild Eye Mara Camp and 3 nights of private guiding in Amboseli.
