Somehow, I thought this sequel would be better than the first film. A stalker? A shady figure from Christian’s past? A plane crash? A MASQUERADE BALL? All of the elements of a classic Gossip Girl season rolled into one ridiculous BDSM-Romance film sounded like such a great time. My problem with 50 Shades Darker was this; it was too boring. The whole thing felt extremely episodic. Something would happen, get resolved, and never be referenced again. It didn’t feel like a movie, as opposed to a collection of web shorts (yes web shorts, this thing was nowhere near television quality). I wanted to be entertained, and to laugh really hard at some ridiculous plot lines. EX: Anna’s abusive boss gets fired, so she has to replace him, resulting in her impressing the company big wigs by telling them to “focus on a younger demographic”. So, fine I got to laugh hard, but even that came with some effort due to having to wade through a little too much ridiculousness. The first film really amped up the camp of the whole thing, and recognized the flaws of the source material. This one did not, and if you’re expecting a few cheap laughs, I’d recommend it. If you’re not, stay far away. SPOILER ALERT: You will never see marbles the same way again.
