New Post on towardmusic.com (link in profile) It’s been over a month since we lost Chris Cornell. The dust is still settling, the tragic impact lingers and the Internet is still swarming with tributes.
On World Refugee Day (June 20th), the official video for Cornell's song The Promise was released. The track was written for the Christian Bale-starring movie The Promise, a film about the Armenian genocide.
The clip features real-life footage of refugees fleeing war-ravaged areas in Syria, Libya and other countries. It's gripping and inspirational ❣️
Watch The Promise and read the tribute to one of the greatest voices in rock n' roll history on towardmusic.com ♩ ♪ ♫ ♬
Cornell is no stranger to tackling tough subjects in his film work. His Golden-Globe nominated song for Machine Gun Preacher, The Keeper touches on the story of Sam Childers and his journey to save children in East Africa. Machine Gun Preacher also commissioned local artist Rob Walker in the movement. Walker’s song For Freedom articulates the children of East Africa’s tragedy and has raised over $30k. Both artists have worked closely with Childers to support the MGP cause.
The first time I ever saw you
You had that faraway look in your eyes
And heaven's eyes shined down upon you
And the whole room filled up with life
Now the cruel world, it's gonna try and change you
Try to hang you up and mess with your pride
Now the rich can just try to chain you
You got to keep your fire burning inside
You won't let them put out your fire
Put out your fire
It is so hard to stop the hatred from growing in my heart and the tears from rolling down my face especially that, both my great grandmothers, were survivors of the genocide. But I wasn't put on this earth to spread hatred. No. I was put on this earth to spread love. Therefore, I will talk about what happened. I will pass down the stories of survival and triumph of my family and those of others. I will visit the graves of my ancestors and sing and dance and laugh with my people. Despite the heartless and barbaric darkness that lives inside the Turks who refuse to acknowledge what the world already knows...I will continue to forgive them because our greatest revenge is that we have lived despite all their efforts to ensure otherwise.
Thank you Terry George, Robin Swicord, Eric Esraelian, Mike Medavoy and William Horberg for bringing this movie to life. "I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature unread, music unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia. See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia."

Did you know 1 in 5 Americans are affected by mental illness and more than 50% do not receive treatment? We need MORE coverage for mental health care, not less.
The Senate health reform bill, the Better Care Reconciliation Act of 2017 (BCRA), will take us BACKWARDS.
The BCRA will allow states to let health insurance plans drop mental health and substance use coverage. It is outrageous to even suggest that mental health coverage is optional!! The Senate bill will also devastate community mental health programs by cutting Medicaid funding, making it harder for people to get psychiatric medications, case management and mental health services.
It will result in less mental health care and shift people with mental illnesses into already-strained emergency rooms, hospitals and sadly jails. Yes jails.
Help #keepthepromise of better mental health care alive. Tell your Senators: #VoteNOontheBCRA
Yesterday June 23, 2017 I shared a series of posts which featured:
Firstly, how my song "I Keep My Promises" had inspired Chris' song "The Promise" and the #KeepThePromise campaign. In this post I said "I love him so much and will always miss the days that could have been—the heart that beamed within a cage is now free to forever rage" and I included a DOVE and fire emoji
Secondly, two posters from the King Animal tour which featured a female bird and buck(s)—these posters are symbolic of Song of Solomon "oh my dove in the clefts of the rock" & "my beloved is like a gazelle or a young stag"
And lastly, just before bed, I shared a beautiful article about the grieving process which featured a story titled "bird on the branch"
Then today June 24, 2017 I see that Chris' widow has posted to his Facebook page some bullshit story about a dove.
This was no coincidence and it truly disturbs me to see the lengths she will go to manipulate people's perceptions and feelings.
