I watched Moana today (for the 1000 time) with my daughter and have to admit, I cried. Please tell me I'm not the only one here who cries in this movies with strong girls and magic songs? The song "who am I" made me think of the work that we all embark on at some stage in our life, a stage that pushes us beyond our comfort and surges insane fear and scattered thoughts. Who am I to do this? No one before me could do this, how will I? What if I don't even know HOW to do this?! Whatever "this is". The thing is even if we find the answer to these questions and feel grounded in it, life has a funny way of completely flipping itself on its head with a new change or stage and majorly challenging us to evolve and transform again! Damnit, right?
Because life isn't static and growth is often asked of us when we don't feel ready, I have found grounding has been hugely important. But wtf is grounding really? Sounds good in theory, but it feels hard and is it even working?? it takes time and awareness to become comfortable out of our busy minds and into our bodies, especially if we don't feel safe in the moment.. But grounding does change everything when you can ground in even the most uprooting situations.
While learning to ground and settle the type A thinking, I have found a few tools to help anchor me while I practice. First just be aware of where you feel yourself, projecting? Hiding? Lashing out?
Then reach for some tools..
Black tourmaline- a massive grounding crystal that is deeply rooted in the earth. It helps with stress and brings you feelings of security. I sit and hold this for however long I need, especially when I feel my self starting to spin
Balance oil eases anxious feelings and supports a sense of relaxation. I put this on my feet every morning and reapply as needed. Helps me set the intention of being in my body.
White fir- supports stability, strength, and empowerment. It also supports releasing ancestral patterns and old habits
There are so many more tools I use for this, like being out in the grass, laying on the ground, and breathing. But if you can't get outside being able to reach for these any time of day can be a life saver.
