THANK YOU to everyone who's been shopping and working w me lately!
Or, #REALUNFOLLOWHOURS ! It's Feb 25th 2017 and Latinas on average make 54 cents to every dollar a white man makes. That's 10 extra months before having earned the same amount! Latinas with a bachelors degree earn $2400 a year less than a white man with an associates degree. Asians actually make the most (not across genders), but white is the binary of the statistics in the articles I read on this subject.
In my job history I've been sexually harassed by male bosses and coworkers too many times to count; called the n word by a boss as an adorable pet name; scolded for refusing to work a second unpaid day in a week at a job in which I have formal education and 10+ years experience. I've seen white male coworkers who I outrank in training, ability, and time on the job get faster pay increases, and be first picked for special opportunities. At my first job in LA, which I only got because landlords wouldn't rent to me when I said I was self employed (I know that's illegal), I was paid less than ever in my life. My 60 yr old latina coworkers, who had the most experience in the industry, were referred to as "the girls," and I ended up quiting w no plan after my boss hit on me at work! At my second, an art job, my boss also expected me to pick up their teen's toys.
If you're gonna make 54 shitty white power cents AND be a race that only exists because of colonialism and slave trade, figure out how to make 54 cents to your own shitty dollar! Assimilated, part white, citizen, education, money freedom, cis, good English, healthy, connections, raised to feel white passing? Smoke em if you got em cause a LOT of people don't got em, but don't waste your spirit begging for recognition and equality in a system designed to hate you! Don't feel like shit about yourself after a lifetime of doing your best yet being forever treated in this confusing way, and especially don't convince yourself you're grateful for scraps they'd never toss a white guy!
