Closing soon: #TheJapaneseHouse
We love the details in Yasuo Moriyama’s house, designed by Ryue Nishizawa and recreated at a 1:1 scale in our Gallery. Yasuo Moriyama, the client, decided to stop working and asked for a portion of the house to be designed as profit-making rental spaces. In response, Nishizawa fragmented the house into ten distinct units. To go from one unit to another, residents must pass through a garden space.
Visit #TheJapaneseHouse before it closes this Sun 25 Jun and head to the blog (link in bio) to read our series of interviews, articles and features on the exhibition.
'Life can't be contained within a single lot’ – Ryue Nishizawa
It’s the final weekend to walk around Yasuo Moriyama’s house in The Japanese House, designed by Ryue Nishizawa (SANAA). The Moriyama House (2005) is recreated at a 1:1 scale in our Gallery. Recalling the original house’s intimate relationship with the city, the recreation is intertwined with the Brutalist architecture of the Barbican #TheJapaneseHouse closes this Sun 25 Jun.
A peaceful sunny afternoon in the Moriyama House, part of #TheJapaneseHouse exhibition in our Art Gallery. The 1:1 recreation (designed by Ryue Nishizawa) constantly transforms with the passing of time. The lights in this space change over the course of roughly an hour, bringing the house from day to night.
Last weekend to visit #TheJapaneseHouse, on display until Sun 25 Jun. Head to the blog (link in bio) to read our series of interviews, articles and features on the exhibition.
