This #WorldOceansDay, we honor legendary oceanographer, Dr. Sylvia Earle. An explorer dedicated to saving what she calls “the blue heart of the planet,” Earle has spent more than 7,000 hours underwater. In 1970, she lived below the surface for two weeks with the first-ever all-female team of aquanauts. Nine years later, she set a world record for the deepest untethered dive by a woman. Today, Earle heads @mission_blue, an organization which seeks to create a worldwide network of protected ocean areas, or “Hope Spots.” #womenshistory#nwhm#womeninSTEM#blueplanet#oceanconservation@time#sheisthefirst#herdeepness

Thursday, September 21, 2017, #MYTOPSEVEN pick is the multi-media project released by Time Magazine on 9/8/17, "FIRSTS: Women Who Are Changing The World." If you haven't read the articles or watched any of the videos from this project yet, seriously, go check it out bc the entire thing is just incredible, from the women selected to the format of the project & the portraits-it's truly amazing, informative & NECESSARY. The point of the project is to highlight women who were the first to reach the top in & achieve success in their chosen field, so for example, Hillary Clinton, stylized as "The Nominee": the first woman to win a major party's nomination for president, or Oprah Winfrey, "The Titan": the first woman to own & produce her own talk show, & on & on the list goes w/ 40+ extremely impressive women of all ages, ethnicities, sexual orientations & backgrounds. Each woman is photographed w/ their title listed & a short video to accompany an article they wrote themselves about their life & success. Among my favorites, besides the 4 women pictured above (#STILLWITHHER), are Issa Rae (The Auteur), Rachel Maddow (The Anchor), Serena Williams (The Pro), Aretha Franklin (The Singer), Rita Moreno (The Actor) &...pretty much all the others too. Well, except Kelly Ann Conway. Fuck you lady! Anyway...after the crushing blow of not only the first female Democratic presidential candidate unexpectedly losing the election but also a wildly sexist, chauvinistic pig winning instead, it's important to remind young girls that there are women who are successful & killing shit in every occupation imaginable, they just may not be as visible as men, so major props to @time for providing a platform to display these women's achievements to the world for kids (girls AND boys alike), young women & everybody else in between see. #SheIsTheFirst#womenwhoinspire#badasswomen#amazingwoman#thefutureisfemale#futureisfemale#weshouldallbefeminists#feminist#feminism#intersectionalfeminism#instersectionalfeminist#intersectionality#heforshe#followforfollow#followback#timemagazine#hrc#hillaryclinton#oprahwinfrey#avaduvernay#ellendegeneres#girlpower#pussygrabsback
