It's still hard to believe that I swam so near with this gentle giant. I was mesmerized yet scared at the same time. I know it won't bite me but still, being that near with such fish as big as our speedboat brought horrified feeling to amateur swimmer like me. After all, it was an unforgetable moment.

It's our filter feeding friends who I worry about. Our friends who open their mouths to swallow tiny creatures like plankton and sadly, now, microplastics. Thin flimsy plastics are the first to break up into tiny bits that not even the human eye could see floating in the ocean. Literally, every single piece of plastic you refuse to use makes a difference, because every single piece of plastic will take centuries to go back to nature--if it does at all. Look after our beautiful ocean friends. Use less plastics. Make your own stuff at home. Ignore social pressures around plastics. Bring reusables. Rise above. If not now, when? 🏽🦈 Beautiful whale shark we swam with at the Ningaloo Reef with @kingsreef at my Exmouth #plasticfreemermaidretreat
The island of Malpelo in Colombia is home to the largest mix of whale shark genders and sizes that I have seen! Both sub-adult male and females, huge pregnant females and beautiful mature males like this handsome 🦈! This was my first mature #whaleshark encounter, since Darwin Arch in the Galapagos is exclusively dominated by large, pregnant females. Maybe Malpelo is the mating ground, and then females travel south to #Galapagos?!?#fundacionmalpelo is trying to solve this puzzle! Video taken on a @darwinfound trip with @sandrabessudo to start the #Malpelo whale shark project and conduct #bruvs to quantify shark abundance and diversity.
