20 years ago I stood in this spot on top of #HalfDome as an awestruck 10 year old girl, inspired by the power and beauty of our planet. That experience filled me with a profound respect and appreciation for mother nature that led me to a career in trying to prevent her destruction. National Parks and public lands are a vital part of our planet, our ecosystems, and our lives. Yet our current elected representatives (GOP) are cutting the funding to and paving the way to sell off these sacred spaces. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to summit Half Dome again, this time as a woman. Let's all make the commitment to preserve and protect our mother from those who seek to exploit her for personal gain. #PeaksOutforNationalParks#mothernature#gratefulAF#outdoorslife#yosemite#yosemitenationalpark
I'm learning how I prefer to travel, what I prefer to see when I wander from home, and I know this: cities are not it. I want forests, mountains or seas, silent and still. I want to hear this planet, and tread softly upon it. This is all. This is ever all.
YOSEMITE ALBUM. Twelve albumen photographs, circa 1865-75. Contemporary Welsh green half morocco, gilt-lettered “VIEWS IN CALIFORNIA” on the front cover, binder's ticket of B. R. S. Frost of Aberdare, Wales. Provenance: inscription on front free endpaper: “Daniel Rees / from his brother William / November 14th 1876.” A suberb series of images from the early period of photography in the Yosemite Valley. The images bear striking resemblance to many taken by Eadweard Muybridge, but lack attribution. Muybridge, along with photographers Carleton Watkins and Charles Weed (who may also be responsible for these images), did much to expand the wider appreciation for the natural beauty of Yosemite and its spectacular geology. The subjects here are quintessential features of the Valley, and represent its grandeur from tree to rock, and from water to sky. #yosemite#california#photography#eadwardmuybridge#muybridge
The California Sister (Adelpha californica) holds a special place in my heart. When I was quite young, I saw one gallavanting in the backyard and wondered what it was. I observed it for a while, made notes, checked out a butterfly guide from the library, and spotted it among the pages. It was the first organism I ever identified, and it kicked off a fervor for understanding and categorizing nature that has only grown (meteorically) since then. Here's to you, sis!
the road didn't use to cut through the land like that interstate. It moved with the land, it rose, it fell, it curved. Cars didn't drive on it to make great time. They drove on it to have a great time. #cars#kachow#takingabreakfromthefastlane#yosemite
During our fist morning backpacking trip in Yosemite National Park, I took this last photo before my camera died while backpacking through the very wet Mist Trail (Vernal Fall and Nevada Fall). I put my camera on my chest strap and covered it with a rainproof wrap but it didn't do the trick. You can imagine how I felt the whole way up to our first campsite. I stopped frequently to catch breaths due to high altitude and sheer ascent trail. I was so ecstatic when my camera worked the next day! I pant and puff when I think of this walk. #vernalfall#vernalfalls#yosemite#yosemite2017#trees#waterfall#ca#yosemitenationalpark#california#mist#misttrail

Where is everyone headed for the 4th? Tioga is opening up so I'll probably be in search of cooler temps in the High Sierras
Last year Bon and I fulfilled a dream and visited Yosemite. I instantly fell in love and knew this was a place I would be returning to throughout my life. The first thing we saw in the park was the famous tunnel view. For me this one view represents everything I love about nature and the greatest examples of those things I've even seen. I want to be reminded of this place everyday so I decided it was the perfect subject for my first tattoo. I am so happy with result! Huge shout out to @drawntosketching for the custom sketch and @tatt2taylor for the amazing ink. #yosemite#tunnelview
