The call to create is a calling like no other, a voice within that howls for expression, shadow longing to merge with light. -Jan Phillips
Buying this from my good friend and the one and only, super talented artist and Art Therapy/Counseling graduate student in training, @kirsten.vidis •

Lights out - way too late. The elephant lamp was my dad's. My grandfather liked collecting elephant things. Hanna just met someone who leads an organization to save 80 elephants in Africa...talks underway. The horse paintings are by a friend who passed away a few years ago. Lots of sweet memories as this light goes out...and with little Harry kitten peeking in the corner at left. . Memory triggers in this little nooky corner. #bedtime#sentimentaltreasures#memorytriggers#memoriesoftheonesweloved#horsepaintings#elephants#goodnight
Guard and protect the elephants by not killing them, because they also want to live like us!===========================================

Not sure how anyone could kill/exploit this animal, even for a fortune. Glad I got to visit a place where they are saving a dying breed... although the trimmed tusks and ankle marks from the chains are questionable.
ALAVATTAM. The peacock alavattam we gives a #royal look to the #place where it is being used... ആലവട്ടം from #Sanskrit आलावर्ता) is a special decorative circular shield or fan that is held beneath both sides of #respectable idols, deities or #mythological characters during #festivals and #dances, especially in the state of Kerala in South India. The object is peculiar to the state of Kerala in India and the name originates from Malayalam
The shield is made of finely shaped and cut #peacock feathers aligned in a circular fashion around a wooden or fiber plaque with traditionally dictated decorative patterns made of other #natural objects such as sea shells etc.
Aalavattam is an essential element to be held atop the elephants during the poorams of South India where caparisoned #elephants are marched in an organized and controlled procession as part of the annual local #temple#festival. Each elephant will have two or three persons atop, one of whom is dedicated to hold a pair of alavattam. During special phases of the accompanying percussion orchestra (Panchavadyam, Pandi Melam or Panchari), the person shall raise up on the back of elephant and hold the alavattams high up above his shoulders.
A typical use of aalavattam in staged #art performance can be seen during #special#appearance scenes of certain protagonist characters in Kathakali dance.
Yesterday was an eye opening experience with four friends I've made - Lanna, Mae thong, Dao, Aoi jai. Even though the farm we visited may not seem appealing, the story of how these elephants (especially the baby elephant Lanna!) got rescued from the circus and to learn painting etc was so inspirational. Look how happy they are now! Their adopter, Mr Pop - who strictly believes in no cruelty and riding on any elephants - mentioned to us it is very difficult to work 24/7 taking care of his elephants, train his farm workers, build the farm to house more rescued elephants, but his love and passion for this line make everything worthwhile. Truly an experience to be so up-close with these gentle mammals and made me more inspired for my South Africa trip, hopefully in the years to come 🏻 please do NOT support elephants riding in Thailand, especially Phuket or in any parts of the world, help spread the word and we all can make a difference🏻 #chiangmai#supportcrueltyfree#saynotoriding#elephants#travel#LannaKingdom
Elephant love medley.
