This is Mount Temple, it is one of the most prominent peaks in the Rocky Mountains. On a summer day in 1955 a group of young boys aged 12-16 struck out to summit the 11627ft giant. They were ill prepared for the trek with just one ice pick and little information about the trail. After hearing the rumblings of distant avalanches one of the boys made the decision to turn back. Unfortunately their stoke of caution came too late and the party was swept up in an avalanche. Only three of the boys survived. Stories like this are a constant reminder of the respect these wild places command and the caution we should exercise in our pursuit of them.
