We interrupt our regularly scheduled Nummi photos to bring you another (slightly belated) #anniversary#albumreview of @dtimages' early hit, #ImagesandWords! Check it out at www.musicalypse.net to see how it holds up a whopping 25 years later!
The Austin pedicab community - more like a 600-strong misfit collective full of loveable rogues, and some not as loveable - adopted the practice back in Spring 2012 to hold annual prom and homecoming parties. We raise money for charity, have a raffle, set up a photo booth, and recruit lots of musicians. Drinking is usually involved, too. We also invite our one- and two-wheeled comrades. This photo is from Pedicab Prom 2015, held on July 21st that year, and @indireal is announcing raffle winners.
57-year-old Chinese Xue Shengli holding up mahjong tiles with English letters that spell out his feelings for 'English Mahjong', a game he created to help people learn the language in the Temple of Heaven park in Beijing, China on 25 September 2011. The idea to turn the traditional game of Mahjong into an educational tool came to the retired taxi driver in 2008 during the Olympic games when an English craze took over the hosting city of Beijing. Xue became obsessed with learning the language and developed 'English Mahjong' as an entertaining way to help him to learn. His homemade mahjong tiles were individually wrapped with paper printed with English letters and played with conventional mahjong rules except that the aim is to form english words. Xue has since patented his game and formed a small community of enthusiasts consisting mainly of retirees. #fromthearchives#latergram#china#beijing#people#portrait#photostory#photojournalism#documentaryphotography#reportage#onassignment#everydayeverywhere#epaphotos#howhweeyoung
