When you are just randomly walking back from a bazaar and this is what you see when you turn your head, right there next to a busy street
A medieval Kukeldash Madrasah from the late 1500s on the left and the Khoja Akhrar Mosque first established in the 800s in the background! Yes, the 800s, three digits, I didn't forget the "1" in front Though it was rebuilt and restored several times.
There is something magical about walking the streets of my hometown and inhaling this history of the Old Town of Tashkent.
It was in #samerkand that #timur set about amassing treasures and beautiful artefacts, requisitioning the finest #artisans from all over his empire to build this city to hold the inspiring structures it does today. It's odd that Timur was a ferocious warrior known for this vicious campaigns yet at the same time spared scholars, artisans and craftsmen in favour of building the dizzying works of art that still stand today. #architecture#geometry#islamicarchitecture#gureamir#uzbekistan
