"After living in this neighborhood there's always been grocery stores... tons of them! There's also a ton of fast food places. But a lot of the healthier options that are now popping up are sort of like, a wave of gentrification, so places that we wouldn't necessarily feel comfortable going to, or welcome to." -TFFJ Youth Mentor
#homesweetfarm To say the girls are excited to be home is an understatement! We all ran straight for the barnyard when we returned. We were thrilled to see a hen with 8 brand new chicks and saddened to see that the guinea mama that showed up with three surprise Keets the morning we left for camp have all passed I came home to a garden gate built by my awesome brother-in-law!!! You guys! If you saw the obstacle course I had to traverse to get into my garden before, you'd be doing the happy dance with me now! I can't even explain how complicated it was but it involved walking through six constantly hungry 150# pigs, stepping over a hot wire which I mostly avoided getting hit, and never, ever being able to get a wheelbarrow in so I'd have to scoot it up next to the fence in the pig pasture and shoveling out one scoop of compost or whatever at a time and walking it to wherever I needed to put it my 1000sq ft garden space We harvested a few of our first cucumbers and giant radishes tonight. I was pleasantly surprised to see only a few squash bug eggs on my squash plants and several brand new plants starting to sprout in case I can't save the ones I've already started.
