While hanging out in the fields of a farm around Habarana, the farmers kids showed up with this young #macaque they just found. It seemed to be paralyzed from the waist down, as it was dragging itself along by the arms, trying to escape the kids. Poor thing. I was sad to think about the chances of it surviving in the wild are close to nil. I was also upset to be told that there are no vets or organizations in town that would be able to help. If only I would've finished that vet med degree.. But what happened was still so heart warming!
I sat down, thinking it'd run away or freak out and bite me. But instead, it came over and got as close to me as possible, putting its little face right in my lap. I picked it up to go sit in the shade of the farmers shack, as it firmly held on to me. We shared some water and a banana (of course), before it took off into the fields again. I really hope they miraculously healed, or at least is still alive, but just sharing that moment was already so cute to me.
They are us. We are them. Compassion.
