A recent obsession to find slugs, nudis, flat worms and ribbon worms on our shores. Slugs and nudibranches are closely related(Mollusca),but flat worms and ribbon worms are in different Phylums. Although in some instances,a flatworm can imitate a nudibranch.
According to Wildsingapore, the overall body colour of the slug varies in shades of green, yellow or white. The intensity and colouration is dependent on how much and what species of seaweed the slug has consumed and the amount that has been retained in the digestive system. Chloroplast is also retained and functions in providing it with additional nutrients.
A very unique morphology that allows the slug to camouflage from predators!excretion of a white deterrent substance from its body is another defense mechanism.the "wings" are actually called parapodia and may function as the slug's means to respire or move.
The Magic Of Socorro Island
Archipelago Revillagigedo has been noted to be one of several #HopeSpots around the world carrying a big enough genetic pool to perpetuate many species of marine and terrestrial life. But these hope spots cannot survive alone. With the advancement of modernisation and technology, the survival of it's marine life depends on us as stewards of this planet more than ever.
Visit Socorro Island on guided pelagic and educational trips and be part of a generation of people to marvel at the beauty of creation in our oceans. Our partners in conservation, Solmar V Liveaboard @solmarv are gearing up for the Great White Shark diving season this coming August. Check them.out at www.solmarv.com
