Hood River folks we're heading to the @hoodriverfarmersmarket tomorrow with a TON of fall bounty. Swing by between 9-1pm and you'll be eating well all week long. See you there! Photo credit to my girl @kateschwag

Hey Instaverse! It's time we introduced ourselves. I'm Taylor, on the left, and that's Jake on the right. We run Footprint Farm along with Susan and Noah, who make up our tireless, supportive, and hilarious 2017 farm crew. Our little farm (1.5 acres in organic veg and flowers, and 100 laying hens), feeds a 70 member CSA, a handful of restaurants, and a booth at the #shelburnefarmersmarket. We grow year-round in a little valley in Vermont, and have been doing so since 2013. We are very much beginning farmers and are active members of @youngfarmers. We screw up as often as we are successful and we are forever indebted to this crazy online community of fellow farmers, gardeners, and supporters of local food. Thank you all for following our story and thank you for teaching us so much through sharing your own. #farmon,

Farm manager Zach with our lowline cattle. These cows make up our breeding herd for our future grassfed beef operation at Marilyn Farms. Bred locally at an organic farm in Minnesota, this breed is shorter and stockier than other breeds, and very winter hardy. They grow a thick winter coat that is starting to come in now (despite the recent 90 deg heat!). Zach manages the herd with rotational grazing, moving them to a new pasture every few days.
One question we get a lot is "what do you feed your cattle?" We thought we should answer that on here for our followers. From mid May through mid to late October our cattle are out to pasture. At that same time, we are busy making hay to feed them during the winter months. When grass is not plentiful we keep a close eye on their nutrition and we feed them a diet that consists of baled hay, haylage, and mineral. We work with a nutritionalist and develop a ration of corn and other grains which are fed to our steers and young stock. Producing happy and healthy cattle is extremely important to us and we make every effort to produce the very best quality feed to care for them.
Mau gimana lagi itulah lidah tak bertulang hehe.
Selamat hari jumat, semoga keberkahan menyelimuti kita semua. Aamiin.
