Wonders of nature! Mother Matra with her son Quinn and his half-brother Quentin. Three weeks after Matra, another Orang Utan lady delivered her baby, but did not accept it. So, Matra adopted the boy and is now raising the two boys. What a fantastic thing to witness in #munich#zoo#hellabrunn#orangutan#primates
The wildlife we saw in various parts of Costa Rica was beyond words. Along the beaches in Manuel Antonio National Park, families of White Headed Capuchin monkeys and pairs of raccoons can be seen looking to steal food and other things from tourists. We could get super close to them and vice versa which didn't faze them one bit. #CostaRica
This is a detail of my painting of Diva, an orphaned mustached guenon monkey, I cared for at @apeactionafrica primate sanctuary in Cameroon. The painting, which I did in 2010, was in my solo art exhibition, "Witness," last month at @theexplorersclub in New York City. One of the things we marveled at was the reflection in Diva's eyes. The other shot is the window directly opposite her, at The Explorers Club....just like the reflection. It's as if she was meant to be there!
It's World Rainforest Day. So, Why are #rainforests important?
Rainforests are often referred to as the lungs of our planet because they play an important role in absorbing carbon dioxide and producing oxygen, which all animals depend on for survival. Rainforests also stabilize the Earth's climate, protecting against flood, drought and erosion, and help to produce nourishing rainfall all around the planet.
Tropical rainforests support the greatest diversity of living organisms on Earth, providing a home to more than 50% of the plants and animals on our beautiful planet.
But the Earth's rainforests are in trouble. Humans are cutting down rainforests at alarming rates and we have to stop now before it's too late.
We work hard to protect and conserve the natural Rainforest habitats for gibbons across South East Asia. Become A Gibbon Guardian today and help us, help gibbons survive and thrive in their jungle homes.
