I don't care how many knives they "found"... this is a sickening situation. She was 90lbs and black. Charleena Lyles, mother of four and pregnant. She wanted better and if she could, she would have. She is the one that called them out of fear of an intruder. #systemfailure#seattlepolice#charleenalyles#wemustdobetter
Last Friday, the officer (Jeronimo Yanez) that shot and killed this innocent man (Philando Castile) was able to walk free. I waited a week to post about this because I wanted time to let it sink in. My brain is still searching to try to find the words for this unimaginable tragedy, but everything just comes up short. I don't know how or why this happened. How this man was shot 7 TIMES when he so blatantly was doing everything this officer asked of him. How he was killed in front of his girlfriend and her 4 year old daughter. How even after his murder and all of the evidence, the killer was allowed to walk free. I cannot, nor will I ever be able, to understand this. It makes me physically sick. This is yet another injustice suffered by the African American community. But make no mistake, you do not have to be black to see this. You do not have to be black to feel that little girls pain in the marrow of your bones when watching that video. When injustice happens to one, it happens to all. Every single human being should be outraged by this. Every single person with a heart should feel this like a punch in the gut. This should not just be another load for the African American community to carry. We should all speak up and speak out. We should all work together to try to find solutions to this problem. I don't know the answers, but I do know this should not be something any one group of people have to face alone. We need to do better for one another. We need to stop these senseless killings. Like that little girl said in the back of that cop car, "I wish this town was safer. I don't want it to be like this anymore." We must try and create a better world, for ourselves and for our children. Sending love and healing to Philando's family and all others effected by senseless violence. #murdered#rip#philandocastile#blacklivesmatter#wemustdobetter#spreadlove#spreadkindness#spreadtolerance#spreadpeace#dogood#unbelievable#tragic#heartbroken#thismuststop#sendinghealing#grossinjustice
The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. - John 1:5
I've always loved the book of John. It was my fist serious read in the Bible. It is a good place to meet Jesus.
It has been a confusing year for me. A heartbreaking, pain in my soul, what the holy Heck is going on, kind of year. Folk keep telling me, "Love will win." I'm banking on that. I'm clinging to that. This passage struck me today. The truth is here. The truth is trying to shine, but it is misunderstood and worse than that, it's misrepresented and misused by those who wield their "religion" to justify some truly heinous acts.
So I'm going back to John. What WOULD Jesus do? The world was messed up then as well, they just didn't have social media and automatic firearms. People haven't changed that much. #prayforamerica#wemustdobetter#ourchildrenarewatching#wwjd
The Church must be a SAFE place to experience deliverance, restoration & development. No one should fear being uncovered during the process.
Wake up Nigeria. It pains me so much to see a good amount of us young people justifying fraud, Yahoo. We really have to do better. There is a moral decay in our country. It's not just our politicians..its us the citizens that are also the root of the problem. Until we do a personal self-check and understand this... change and growth as a country will be far from us. #ilovemycountry#wemustdobetter
I'm sorry , I know this is graphic and so incredibly hard to watch , but the truth needs to be seen and heard . This man did not deserve to die, and justice was not served . This is what happens when races are taught to fear each other. This is the result of racial profiling . This breaks my heart.#philandocastile#imsosorry#wemustdobetter#nomore
Part 1: Thanking God I still have my mommy! Someone was driving erratically & lost control of their car. They jumped the median into oncoming traffic, hitting my mom head on. She has seat belt lacerations, a broken leg & few other injuries But GOD! Thankful to the stranger who came to her aid & prayed with her until the paramedics arrived. My mom certainly doesn't look like what she's been through! Part 2: I rented a car from Avis Car Rental & left my car on their lot where their employee told me to park it. I returned to find my car sitting on bricks! While I was frustrated at the vandalism & inconvenience it caused, I realize these things happen in a world that desperately needs a Savior. I am however upset at how poorly @avisusa handled the situation. I was told by their corporate office that they don't allow customers to leave their cars on their lot. Then I was asked if was charged a storage fee for my car being there. Ultimately they say they are liable nor will they compensate me beyond a refund of the additional insurance $63.96 obtained toward the rental. Not only that, I wasn't informed of the vandalism until I returned the rental. I mourn the deaths of excellent customer service & common sense. There is a better way. I pray this doesn't happen to anyone else. #aviscarrental#poorcustomerservice#wemustdobetter#justsad
Why do we compare ourselves to what the naked eye betrays or what our insecurities manipulate us into believing. Sometimes we fall for envy not fully aware that the person your fixated on went through so much to get where they are. Reality is you would never be them or have what they have because that life was designed for that person only. The Good thing is your life was created for YOU! So embrace it and develope wisdom to build it. We are so quick to allow emotional opinions hinder us instead of allowing the very thing we desire be our drive into grateness. So before you open the door of envy make sure you know how much a person paid for that smile they carry. #theprocessfromshetoher#wemustdobetter#envyisbliss#notcute#loveyourself#beautyisintheeyesofthebeholder
Sometimes I'm really happy & have a positive energy with the world. I have open minded, accepting, beautiful, artistic, inclusive, creative, progressive, "want to change the world" type people around me. They're raising their children to be this way also & I feel like there is hope for the future.
Then other days I follow a series of links on the net that I know I shouldn't.
Today's was a page that was about "former" homosexuals that had found God & were "cured" of their "sexual addictions". Other days I see pages & pages of people who think domestic violence is an acceptable part of daily life, who believe that God hates homosexuals, who laugh & take pleasure in animal abuse, child abuse, rape, racism, sexism. Who are are raising their children this way also. Who are intent on dividing us instead of uniting us.
It breaks me. The weight of the future of our planet & our society weighs heavy. I look around me & wonder how other people aren't feeling it this strongly too. I have a son now. I'm trusting the world to be a place of love & community for him & at this current time it is so very far from that.
We need to do better my friends. We need to. Our future depends on it. #theworldscaresme#notimeforracism#notimeforsexism#stoprapeculture#stopanimalabuse#endchildabuse#enddomesticviolence#unitedwestand#dividedwefall#wemustdobetter
60 women came forward telling the same story that spanned decades, of a high-profile man using his immense power to drug and sexually assault women with impunity.
After the jury became deadlocked, a mistrial was declared in what will surely not be the last trial for Bill Cosby.
Despite dozens of women telling the exact same story, despite Cosby admitting to drugging the woman in this trial in a decade-old deposition, we live with rape culture. Society will make any excuse for the perpetrator, will find any reason to blame the victim. This is why women don't report, the entire system is designed against them.
You are my brother, my father, my son, my nephew, my uncle, my husband and my friend. I understand your pain and I know you get weary from all the injustice, because I do, too.
We don’t always get along because of the frustration and confusion from oppression that has accumulated over the last few hundred years. It’s starting to take its toll on us and sometimes we take that out on each other.
Our communication has been interrupted by the sounds of gunshots, imprisonment, poverty, prayers and the preacher-man. We have so much to fight against and we don’t have much time for healing. We have to convince this world—and sometimes ourselves—that we deserve basic human (and civil) rights. ◊ I know we have to deal with the lynches, police brutality and under-educated children, but at some point we have to have this conversation because we need each other and I don’t want to lose you… we are supposed to be a family.
FBF#ChildhoodMemeories#Black Families These 2 stuck it out as long as they could 4 me and my siblings. It's sad how theses lazy parents now days are so selfishly making themselves incapable of taking care of their children. It's EXTREMELY rare to find a Black man who finished college , served this country, and took good care of his family by any means necessary. He had a plan and I'm so glad it worked. To me he was the perfect MAN.#BabyGirl
Im that Daddy and Mommy kind of Girl !HAPPY DADDY's week to all the fathers, you all deserve too. #Especially MINE #BabyBoomer#RealOG#GoodMan #I Love my Daddy#WeMustDoBetter#
The belt of truth... Truth is proving subjective these days. Alternative facts can be tweeted out and they morph into truth despite the best efforts to stop them. Entire conventions of churches who claim to follow Jesus have to actually debate and vote whether to denounce hate groups. It's confusing and sad. I just need to keep praying to see God move in my life and not get so distracted by the world. #prayforamerica#wecandobetter#wemustdobetter
The appointment today was pretty disappointing. The doctor was very rude and started the conversation with "so what exactly do you want me to do" and then proceeded to argue with me about having imaging done, and then said "well since you know so much". Well yes actually I do since I have this condition myself and have been researching it for two years because of my child! We are suppose to come back in July for their vascular abnormalities clinic. Depending on how that goes it will determine if we come back! I'm just so tired of the medical community knowing nothing about lymphedema! It's sad that they are failing their patients and don't seem to have any desire to do better! #lymphedema#awareness#weneedacure#wemustdobetter
