Rocking the #rednose at work for #rednoseday. Please go to rednoseday.org to donate today to help end #childpoverty
About 15 million children in the US live below the "federal poverty level", which is already set way below living standard meaning it's closer to 43% of children living in actual poverty. Rates are highest among black, latino and Native American children.
To blame the way Ariana dresses or her unapologetic feminism and sex positivity for the Manchester attack is utterly reprehensible. All too often misogyny controls women through shame and protectionism. We do not have to moderate our behaviour to prevent violence. We do not have to feel shame. We do not need to be protected from and/or for ourselves. It is misogyny that needs to be curtailed, it is the precursor to so much violence and mass murder.
#unity#teacher#union#pft1881 I'm so proud of all the people who came out to support the #petaluma teachers today. It was overwhelming. So many families joined the staff picket line at our school site this morning. Horns blasted in support and so many beverages and snacks were dropped off. We were joined by the teachers from the junior high school near us as we walked to the high school near us then walked to picket line there. A huge gathering of students were there with signs and music blasting from boom boxes and even a fractured marching band. The mass surged to the district office just a block away as we were joined by staff from all other sites in the district. Our presence filled both sides of the street covering two blocked as we marched and chanted. The group proceeded to a central and visible park near a main thoroughfare. All along the way, honks and shouts of support. Hearing news of solidarity from others gave us pride: other districts in Petaluma, Novato, and Santa Rosa wore #unionblue, Petaluma Teamsters did not deliver to the schools, a representatives from San Francisco Unified Teacher, Sonoma State University, and Santa Rosa Junior College unions were there in support. What a day! Marching with my family, my tribe of teachers was the best part of all. #pride#whyimarch

#whyimarch : because NYC public schools should not be training their students to carry on the same traditions of racial and income inequality that exist today. We need classrooms that foster tomorrow's leaders who are going to solve the city's segregation and inequity issues. #integrateNYC4me#MakeAmericaInteGREAT everyone come through and bring your friends LINK IN MY BIO
after more immigration raids in my community today it feels really good to be able to print up some loving vibes to send out into the world tonight. if you'd like to pick one of these up for a teacher appreciation gift use the code teacherlove for 40% off. (look for the freedom of the press section in the webshop) thanks for all of your help getting these into classrooms where little eyeballs can see them.
i march because we live in a world, especially a city, with so much color and beauty that comes in endless amounts of ways. we won't be able to acknowledge or appreciate that if you keep us segregated our entire K-12 years of school. we are equal, we are one, we are NYC 🏾 #whyimarch#integrateNYC4me#MakeAmericaInteGREAT i really hope to see y'all there / RSVP LINK IN MY BIO
Indivisible Santa Clarita held a “You Suck Rally and Die-In” at @repsteveknight's district office earlier this month. Knight was one of the 14 California Republicans who voted to repeal the #ACA and pass the cruel and inhumane #Trumpcare. In protest, we brought our mock gravestones, gas masks, and long black robes to let Knight know we plan to send his political career to the afterlife in 2018.
Today, the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released a thorough analysis for the new Trumpcare Health Plan that Knight and his fellow GOP voted for, and it's a disaster: 14 million people will lose their healthcare next year; 23 million people will lose it within 10 years; premiums for seniors would skyrocket; people with pre-existing conditions "would ultimately be unable to purchase comprehensive nongroup health insurance at premiums comparable to those under current law, if they could purchase it at all."
I repeat -- this is cruel and inhumane. Each and every Republican who voted for this bill should be forced to face their constituents and justify why they passed this horrific plan without seeing the CBO score. Every citizen with a pre-existing condition or a loved one with a pre-existing condition (that's everyone in the America, yes?) should flood the phone lines and town halls of these Republicans and make their lives a living hell.
Finally, if your representative voted for Trumpcare, hold a Die-In in front of their office when they return home on break. Call your news station and ask them to cover it. Take photos and share them on social media. Let your representative know their vote has consequences.
Stand up. Die In. Don't back down. Our lives depend on it. 🏼🏾🏿🏻 #theresistance#indivisible#indivisiblesantaclarita#indivisibleguide#savetheACA

“Trump says Brussels is a hellhole. Brussels says Trump is an ass-hole”
Donald Trump told the Belgian prime minister that the world was “in a terrible position” but that terrorism would be defeated, as he arrived in Brussels, a city he once attacked as a “hellhole”. As 6,000 protesters took to the streets to show their anger at the presence of the US president on Belgian soil, Trump and his wife, Melania, were welcomed at the Palace of Brussels by King Philippe and Queen Matilda, who he spoke to for 20 minutes, before talks with the Belgian prime minister, Charles Michel. “We will win,” Trump told Michel, in a reference to the fight against terrorism.
Black bodies shouldn't exist as target practice. How many bodies will pile up until allies decide enough is enough?
NYC has some of the most segregated schools in the country and students are fighting back. Amari is marching for equitable resource allocation, show us why you march at City Hall this Saturday!
