It's no secret that collaborative community projects are my jam 🏼I love pieces created by a lot of hands. This texture installation on one of our large walls, that has been lonely for some time, was created by about 20 Open Studio artists of various ages. I left out the materials all week and let them go to town! I think we may need to do another next week during Open Studio, Tuesday and Thursday from 10-12pm!
The beginning of something large and beautiful Today's Open Studio group reeeally loved all the materials set out for this installation provocation. While a few of the artists enjoyed randomly assembling and piling materials, these two artists approached it with something particular in mind: "This is the grass where the nest sits and these are the feathers where the birds sleep. Here is where their TV is". Can't wait to see what Thursday's artists add to it!
Happy Spring! We are hosting several Open Studios throughout the next two weeks for those of you having a spring break staycation. Open Studio is all ages and will be held Tuesday+Thursday from 10-12pm, as well as Saturday from 12-2pm. Saturday will also feature the Toddler Art Playgroup Drop-In from 10-11! Hope to see you soon!
We had back to back birthday parties in the studio today and it was SO fun! We started the day with a Moana themed party full of boat making, face paint tattoos, and polymer clay jewelry. Next up was an awesome My Little Pony themed party featuring these AMAZING clay ponies and rainbow wands Thank you so much to the families who joined us today. We are always so grateful to be a part of your child's special day. 🤗Scroll through to take a peek at all the fun!
What an amazing day printmaking with some very special preschool and pre-k students! Today was my first session with the Children's Museum and it was a blast! I introduced printmaking on linen squares using all natural materials-feathers, cabbage, leaves, and flowers! After each child completed their print they were able to use liquid watercolors to dye the fabric and observe how adding color changed the print. The work was truly beautiful and I can't wait to see how they choose to display all of them!
Concentric Circle Community Project. November/December 2016.
Finally installed our Community Concentric Circle project inspired by Kandinsky! 🏼This provocation was set out for 2 months during both classes and Open Studio time. Many different families participated in creating these concentric circles and I just love the way they look all together. Can you spot your circle? You can see more about the install in my Instagram Story 🏼
I am so very excited to announce that Line+form Atelier will be sharing a beautiful garden space with Irvington Flower Bouquet @homegrownflorist beginning April 2nd! What a great day for an art party! Today we celebrated a special birthday girl with rainbow stuffies, tinker tray jewelry and crowns, and an art cake! Happy birthday, Maddie!
What an amazing day in the studio! Both Toddler Art Playgroup and Open Studio were packed with young artists. There were so many amazing projects created and materials explored. Toddler Art Playgroup explored creating lines with toy cars rolled through paint, oobleck sensory bins, and spray painting! The Open Studio artists created everything from wooden sculptures to these stunning liquid watercolor/salt/metallic paint pieces. The artists who created them were absolutely amazed by the reaction of the salt and paint. "Watch the way the salt forms a mountain and then melts into the paint. Feel how heavy the paper is now! What would happen if I added this gold on top?" 🏼
Brrr! Looking for something fun to do on this frigid Saturday? Join us from 10-11am for Toddler Art Playgroup or 12-2pm for Open Studio!
Wind chimes One of my favorite provocations! The possibilities were limitless with this group. I set out an array of loose parts, feathers, washi tape, wood glue, fiber, and bells for the artists to explore. I thoroughly enjoyed watching how different each artists approach was. This particular artist added a ton of fiber, washers, and bells to create a very musical chime. Thanks for joining me this morning, artists!
This group dove right in! Eager artists totally in their element 🏼
A plethora of loose parts for my preschool guests from the Children's Museum this morning! Can't wait to see the magic they create.

The butterfly observations were a huge hit! 🦋I loved watching the artists carefully observe and verbalize the colors they saw and the size difference between the three specimens. "This butterfly has two colors!" "The yellow butterfly is the biggest." 🦋
What a great Open Studio session we had today!! Lots of sculptures were built, instruments were made, and running races were won! 🏿♀️🥁We will have another Open Studio this Thursday from 3-5pm! See you then.
New provocation at the observational drawing table 🦋So happy I found these at @bkflea. I chose a Calypso, Apricot Sulphur, and a Numberwing. If you're interested in adding one of these beauties to your studio space or home, give @flutter_bykatie a follow!

Home sweet home. We arrived late last night and Ella has been a drawing machine all morning! Heading to the studio to drop off new supplies from NYC and do some spring cleaning!
Saw so many amazing textiles from all over the world at the @bkflea this morning! I picked up the coolest carved textile stamps from Pakistan (seen at bottom of photo here). I can't wait to see how my artists explore them I also picked up some very special specimens for observational drawings from an amazing artist named Katie @flutter_bykatie 🦋A wonderful, inspirational way to spend our last morning in the city.
Loved these portraits outside of the @bkflea this morning. 🏼One of my sessions yesterday discussed ways to get children to draw or paint character emotions other than just happy, mad, or sad in their artwork. My wheels are definitely turning!
My Artist Exploration students loved learning about Alexander Calder last semester. I definitely thought of them while admiring this piece of his titled 'Sandy's Butterfly'
