#vamosacentrarnosporfavor #diainternacionaldelapaz#fuerzamexico#puertorico#grancanaria#miami#cuba#lafuerzadelanaturaleza#aquicabemostodos
Sometimes in the face of tragedy, I am at a loss for words. There is so much heartbreak and I just can't bring myself to verbalize my thoughts and feelings in an outward manner. The recent natural disasters from earthquakes in Mexico to the hurricanes that hit the Caribbean as well as Texas and Florida, have turned my words silent.
The amount of loss and devastation is astounding and overwhelming and I turn to look at the faces of the people who are suffering such loss. Fortunately my family in both Houston and Fort Lauderdale were all safe, but I can't help but think of those less fortunate and in areas where living conditions are much harder to endure in normal circumstances.
It was on my trip to Cuba last year that I realize more and more just how drawn I am to the people, faces and their experiences of those I meet on my travels. This is Elena, a lovely abuela who just happened to step outside her door as we passed by. We stopped and chatted briefly and she shared her dynamite smile with us. It's faces like hers I return to over and over again when I think about the category 5 hurricane that passed by Cuba's northern coast.
To all those who have suffered through these recent events, I thinking about you, I pray for you, and I hope recovery is quick.

Here I am at The Revolution Museum in Havana, Cuba. What I've learned is that Cuba trains each and every one of its' citizens on what to do to prepare for a hurricane. At least 34 Floridians died because of Hurricane Irma. Maybe it was 42 including the 8 that died in the nursing home in Hollywood, FL because the owners were too greedy and lazy to get enough generators and fuel to care for their paying clients in case of emergency. Cuba has its' problems but nobody that I know of died because of greed in the aftermath of any hurricane. #florida#FEMA#cuba#larevolucion
