"Alyssa (@our_cupcake2012), also known as Cupcake, was born in December of 2012 in Gainesville Florida. We found out during the pregnancy, at 24 weeks, that she had Spina Bifida, Hydropcephakus, and cleft lip. Immediately after birth Cupcake had her first set of surgeries. We stayed in the NICU for 5.5 months due to several complications. We also found out during our stay that she was deaf (bilaterally) and had heart defects (ASD & VSD). Once she had open heart surgery in April of 2013, she became healthier as the days passed. We have watched Alyssa go through more than her share, and she did so all with a smile on her face and an amazing attitude.
Another adventure today! I accidentally hiked five miles to find a waterfall and needless to say, I'm all out of spoons. Remember those packages I mentioned yesterday? Well one of them is from the amazing @mollys_mail !
We will be making Ayssa, Leukemia Survivor, a Sewing Package! We are looking for sponsor(s) to donate a total of $75 in order to make this happen. You can donate by visiting the link in our bio!
More about Ayssa:
Ayssa is currently 15 years old and in 10th grade. In March of 2015, Ayssa was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) at 12 years old.
She underwent a Bone Marrow Transplant on August 6, 2015. Thankfully Ayssa has been in remission since then. But due to steroid use, Ayssa has Vascular Necrosis to her bones in her ankles, knee, and will need a double hip replacement in the future. She also developed Graft vs Host disease from her BMT which requires treatment twice a week. *Blanket Hugs is a registered 501(c)(3) Non Profit so all donations made are tax deductible. You will receive a donation receipt in the mail or through email in the next couple weeks*

Wow our little preemie blind special needs boy is three years old today!!! Poor little guy is sleeping his birthday away sick from a cold his mama gave him (unavoidable). Sure it sucks just being nurse - mom to the max today helping him but there have been so many times that the thought of him living to be three seemed unimaginable and very frightening if he did make it. I am so grateful to be sitting here in his room listening to him breath on his own without being hooked up to a machine. Our little family has been through so much even just medically getting to know Zacky's 'hacks' and we have come to a place now where we know how to respond to him getting sick without just running to the hospital every time he gets a cough. Zacky has already done so many things we never thought were possible. This past spring he passed the test to get a speaking valve to wear on his tracheostomy so that he can use his voice. Before that we had not heard him since he was 5 months old. Last night he was quite upset crying with sore molars coming in and being sick and he was screaming his little head off. Yes sometimes I want to take the valve off to give our ears some peace and quiet but looking back at these pictures and thinking of when we would do anything just to hear his little voice I was overcome with joy that my little boy could make such a noise. Funny how we so quickly forget about an achievement we have succeeded in and are already setting our sights on what the next one could be. Reminiscing about all of Zackys seemingly insignificant achievements to an outsider makes me so proud and full of joy, hope, curiosity, and strength that my heart could explode!
Happy Birthday to my perfectly unique little boy #three#specialneeds#blind#birthday#tracheostomy#gtube#proudmama#welcometoholland#growingup#overcomingtheodds#miracle#joy#happiness#proud#adventure#toddler#ymm#fortmcmurray#alberta

this baby is amazing everyone. we had our first physio appointment yesterday, and the whole time she just kept saying 'Huxley! why are you here!?' and 'I was expecting a different baby'... we learned he is actually ahead of some milestones! we're going to continue to follow up with her just to make sure he maintains progress, but we are definitely happy dancing considering the initial expectations we were given for him.
I saw Killian a couple weeks ago to deliver his HeartPack!
He's doing so great and will be celebrating his 1st birthday next weekend! His family is so sweet and in lieu of gifts are raising money for Blanket Hugs instead at his party. That to me is amazing and I am so beyond thankful to have them in my life. God puts people in your life for a reason and The Cavanagh family has been one of those people for me.
Also the same goes to @brenna_boo9 who is donating her birthday to Blanket Hugs as well. She is hoping to cover the costs for a Sewing Package. Please make sure to wish her a big Happy 18th Birthday below and tell her how amazing she is!
