Making @theoriginalmoonpie pops for Lennon's preschool friends to go with foam sheet suns for them to recreate the solar eclipse on Monday.
Did you know that the 25th of August is Uruguay's Independence Day? When I was researching Uruguay I was amazed to learn that it has a world first programme promising a free laptop for every single child in school... and, like NZ there are more and in Uruguay than people! To celebrate Uruguays Independence Day we've created a fun Sun of May (that's the symbol on Uruguay's flag) sun catcher ... and have a recipe for the most epic Chivito (think the ultimate ) ... head to the blog to check it all out #linkinbio#moomookachooclub#uruguay
Working on some scissor skills today with this simple cutting exercise.
Goose doesn't really have any interest in cutting so it's great to have these on hand to get a bit of practice here and there.
What a week! We were completely blown away with all of the seasonal entries! Coming from Melbourne (Australia), which is known for often experiencing four seasons in one day, you'd think i'd be used to such an influx of seasonal glory... But nothing could have prepared me for the all the creative ideas that this week's @smocks.on community dreamed up!
Every one of you smockstars deserves a medal and a huge thank you for making Seasonal Art Week such a resounding success. I was BLOWN AWAY and am completely inspired!
My original plan was to choose four favourites, one for every season, and after much tormenting deliberation, I did manage to do that:
WINTER: Shubha & her talented daughter from @learn2steam painted the most beautiful Ted Harrison inspired winter landscape - pls let me know when you're taking commissions ;)
SPRING: Heath & Nina from @heathfernance injected some science into their art by creating incredible crystal flowers AND chromatography butterflies!
SUMMER: Nicole & her toddlers from @thepaintedtoddler got their process art on with bubble-wrap printed butterflies & cardboard "swipe" painted backgrounds.
AUTUMN: Michelle & co from @createlaughlearn created a gorgeous Fall-inspired window display from coffee filter leaves they made!
HOWEVER, given so many of you chose to reflect all 4 seasons in your art, I thought I would also share my 5 favourite all-seasons projects:
Kristie & Luke from @littlehandsbigimagination explored the seasons all week and I fell in love with their multi-media, multi-process, multi-season paintings!
Alysha from @itsy_bitzy_play & her munchkin enjoyed the magic of glue-resist painting when they created their seasonal wreath!
Sui & Mr3 from @sweepea worked together to build the CUTEST bee baskets for collecting flowers!
Heidi from @the_harmony_tree & her little guy turned paint chips into the happiest rainbow mosaics I've ever seen!
Lisa from @theartgardenblog & her girls created seasonal colour studies by rubbing alcohol onto Sharpie drawings - another fab process!
And that's a wrap! Thanks to @cara.raisingkinley, @toddler_tornado, @momma_teaching, & @teach.investigate.play for letting me hang out with you this week - it was an honour 🏻

Are there any kids who don't like stickers?
Both of my boys do, but when we heard about the new @get.creative.with challenge for this week, I realize we had none. Zero stickers in the house
Luckily we did have @sharpie markers, clear contact paper and scissors. WE MADE OUR OWN STICKERS
This was a ton of fun, low mess and they are totally customizeable! My guy drew his train, his name and a rainbow
BTW - clear contact paper is one of the greatest things ever
If you haven't checked out @get.creative.with and their weekly challenges - go do it now! I love seeing how much creative goodness everyone is creating with their smalls you'll be seriously inspired
A slight cheat...this was a little craft pack which we were given as a gift. There's a lot of packs that I wouldn't buy, paper and pencils being a better choice but this one was brilliant, once the little windmills were made the girls set to work with decorating them with stickers.
Both so different, I love the colours, oh and thankfully it's a 3 pack so I can have a go when they're in bed!! @get.creative.with#getcreativewith@myboredtoddler
Today we made some pom-pom popsicles and they were delicious!
We made our own pom-pom paintbrushes using clothes pins and dabbed paint onto some cardstock cut into a popsicle shape. When it dried we attached it to a tongue depressor and our popsicle was complete!
This was our first time using pom-pom paint brushes and Goose loved it! What's your favourite kind of home made paintbrush?
Easy Peasy Autumn Tree Craft with a free tree printable!
Happy Sunday! Here is some monster making fun from the weekend. Set up a little "invitation to create" for your little ones with whatever supplies you have on hand. I used construction paper cutouts for the bodies, pipe cleaners, pom poms and googley eyes ! #TheKidsPlay
Cardboard popsicles have been on our art to-do list for months (thanks to the crafty crew over @creatingcreatives 🏼) and we finally got around to them right at the very end of summer and @smocks.on Seasonal Art Week. We couldn't make regular cute cardboard popsicles, we had to go XTREME: NEON SPIN-ART POPSICLES 🤘🏼 YUMMMM.
If you watched our stories a couple of days ago when we made these treats, you already know that we tried a few different processes (bubble wrap prints, scented gel crayons, and just free painting) and loved them all, but our ultimate fave, of course, was spin art
We've been doing spin art so much lately you probably already know the drill:
• Tape scrap cardboard popsicle into basket of salad spinner
• Squirt on tons of IKEA Mala paint and some regular old white acrylic
• Put the lid on the spinner and use your muscles 🏼
• Open it up and gasp at the xtreme gorgeousness
• Repeat. A bazillion times over.
I hope you guys all had as much fun as K and I did with my instabuddy Jessica's Seasonal Art theme this week! If you've got a project all ready to post, put a SPRING in your step, friend There are lots of projects already posted for her to pick from -- SUMMER really, reallllly cool and the picking is going down TOMORROW!
Real quick, here's what you've gotta do:
POST a picture of the collab or side-by-side seasonal art you made with you little or a picture of you guys making it.
