Job done. My guest chapter written as part of an upcoming guide to Australian & New Zealand gin is off to the editor. Now the reward. I've been very under the weather this past week so this is the first drink for a while. Come to daddy!
A Vesper Martini. A creation of Ian Fleming in the novel Casino Royale. Really the only decent cocktail that features both gin & vodka in simpatico. I like mine with equal parts of a full flavoured London Dry gin like @beefeatergin and a spicy Polish or Russian vodka and of course @lillet1872 Blanc, shaken over ice. An iron fist in a velvet glove Martini!
A gentleman is a patient wolf said someone who knew their way around the seductive arts. A few weeks back I was a guest of @patientwolfgin in Melbourne at their distillery open day ( and broadcast live via Facebook) and despite the crowds, they generously gave a bottle from Batch #10. Using the classic London Dry botanicals and some Ruby Grapefruit, native Aniseed Myrtle, Tonka beans & Cubeb Pepper. The result is an Australian gin with finesse. Quite dry & light on the palette with lingering aniseed notes. A full review is in the works! Definitely a gin to seek out.
It's the end of the line for this beauty. @martinmillersgin: 10 botanicals, cucumber essence and diluted in Iceland with glacier water - elegant and delicious. This is the first gin I brought back from a trip to Calgary last year and the one that got me curious about the variety of gins out there. It will be missed but many more to discover - stay tuned! Cheers everyone!
I was invited to create something for the bar, so after being inspired by the kitchen garden I created this Martini Kebun. Using lemongrass and fresh green chili from the garden plus some a few drops of homemade bitters & chilli oil, its fresh & crisp up front with a subtle lingering chili note. Thanks for the honour @alilaubud
I saved one of the best till last: @theotherroomsg tucked away, it features dozens of spirits each infused thoughtfully with individual maceration or barrel aged resulting in hundreds of permutations that reinvent the classics.
In this instance its a great riff on @plymouthgin with a delicate lavender infusion. Fantastic.
Happily @antidotebar was 10 seconds from my hotel, and was in my top 10 to visit.
A busy bar they presented this perfectly crafted @no3gin with a twist which suits the tropics rather well. I noted the mixer tasted the mix twice: before the ice was added and after stirring on ice before pouring into a chilled glass. Excellent.
It would be amis of me not to drink my first cocktail here at the famous @RafflesHotelSingapore.
They didn't disappoint with an excellent, large, cold @sipsmith Dry Martini in a lovely ambience. I felt right at home.
