The #Fergusonfarmforum ended with some inspiring + fearless spoken word by some incredible friends of the farm. This beautiful place constantly reminds me of the good that is comin for this world if we continue to listen + learn w/ one another.
His words used to feel like blows made by brass knuckle wearing fists. They hit almost daily, their intensity depending on whatever he felt the severity of my mishap was. Maybe I didn't answer the phone in time or said something slick. Maybe I smiled at the cashier at the convenience store. Whatever it was, phrases like "You dumb bitch" was the norm and "worthless bitch" was for special occasions. Lucky for me (I guess) because special occasions were the norm.
These bullets dressed in verbs and nouns pierced through me until all I saw when I looked in the mirror was the reflection of their definitions. I was worthless. I was stupid. I was ugly. Crazy. Dramatic. Undesirable. Unloveable. Then one day I broke that fucking mirror and looked at myself again. I mean REALLY looked. In each shard of glass I saw a piece of a woman who deserved to be loved. One who deserved happiness. I saw a woman who was beautiful. Intelligent. Worthy. Powerful. I saw ME...Even through all the pieces.
Emotional and verbal abuse is real. Words do hurt. Words can do damage both mentally and physically. But here's the thing: those words can only survive off of the power you give them. You define you. I pray that out of all the words you may use to do so that "worthy" is one of them- Neisha H.
Over the summer the Edwards lab @sdsu worked with the Konar lab at university of Alaska Fairbanks to understand how kelp loss affects offshore habitats. Trawling in hundreds of meters of water they found relatively high shrimp diversity off one of the islands. How cool is that !?! @scottgabara

How was your weekend? Ours was long, tiring, and fulfilling. Our SALTy women went to Midsayap, North Cotabato for a medical and dental mission in one of the barangays there. They were able to serve more than 200 patients. They were a short of hands so everyone had to do several jobs at the same time -- registration, triage, pharmacy, and even checkup when the lone volunteer doctor left early to perform a scheduled operation. On their way home to Davao, they got stuck in traffic because of the on going bridge constructions. The usual 5 hour trip was extended to more than 7 hours. It was physically draining, but our women went home smiling and happy with their hearts full knowing that they have made the the love of Jesus felt to those in need. #beSALT#Jesus#missions#medicalmission#outreach#love#greatcommission
