When it comes to pizza, I'm pretty picky. My inner Brooklynite is not a fan of franchise, gimmicky brands or inauthentic pies. That being said, I am still partial to a blend of homemade hacks and traditional fare. One of my go to dinners is a take on a traditional Margherita Pizza, using naan bread as a substitute for classic crust. Tonight's #dinnerfortwo is an updated twist on this favorite: Shrimp Basil Naan Pizza. Here's what you'll need:
For the shrimp:
1 pound raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 tsp adobo with coriander and annato
1 tsp lemon pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp fennel seeds
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp sazon
1 tsp dried parsley
For the pizza:
2 garlic naan crusts
1 ball of fresh mozzarella, sliced
1 bunch basil, sliced into ribbons
1 package Knorr pesto mix
4 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 tbsp dried oregano
1 tbsp dried parsley
1 tbsp dried basil
1 tsp garlic powder
1: Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line a baking pan with foil and set aside.
2: In a medium bowl, combine shrimp with adobo, lemon pepper, garlic powder, fennel seeds, paprika, sazon and parsley. Toss until thoroughly coated and set aside.
3: In a separate bowl, combine pesto mix, olive oil, oregano, parsley, basil and garlic powder. Brush half of this mixture onto the mozzarella slices and the other half onto the naan crust.
you make me feel like I've been locked out of heaven for too long
Couldn't complain when bae said he wanted to order in pizza! Got only the best of the best in the heights...Fresco's! Definitely recommend the La Nonna bon appetit!
Tonight's cozy #dinnerfortwo is an overdue nod to my favorite herb: basil! There's triple basil power in this lovely Basil Pizza. Here's what you'll need:
1 package raw pizza dough
1 block fresh mozzarella, sliced and halved
2 bunches fresh basil
1/2 cup pizza sauce
1/4 cup pesto
2 tbsp white truffle oil
1 tsp dried rosemary
1 tsp dried basil
1: Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
2: In a small bowl, combine white truffle oil, dried rosemary and dried basil. Set aside. Next, brush both sides of half of mozzarella slices with pesto and set aside.
3: Press dough onto lightly greased pizza pan and brush with white truffle oil. Top with pizza sauce, fresh mozzarella, and fresh basil. Arrange mozzarella in a pesto, non pesto order to diffuse the flavor!
1: Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Spray cookie sheet and set aside.
2: Cook steak according to package directions and set aside. Pour 1/4 cup of oil over the steak and stir.
3: Place crescent sheet on cookie sheet and brush with 2 tbsp of oil. Combine mozzarella sauce and pesto mix in a bowl and spread over crescent sheet, ensuring that the layer is even.
4: Place provolone cheese (up, down, up), mozzarella cheese, onions, garlic, basil and steak on the dough sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes. In the meantime, pour sriracha and yum yum sauce in a squeeze bottle.
5: Ensure that the crust is golden brown and that the cheese is melted. Garnish with cilantro and sauce and enjoy!
