Wild and free
Summer has given us a sneak peak this week. We are on spring break and the weather is awesome.
As I started some spring clean up in the garden my kids were left to their own devices. They've been working on getting a 'river' flowing through our field again. I think it used to flow but over time leaves and trees have fallen and created more swamp than stream. Anyway the kids have been doing a pretty good job at unclogging it, it's actually flowing again you can hear the water running over the rocks.
Then today they emerged from the barn with rafts they'd created to sail on aforementioned river. I was blown away, they'd done it unguided and made fabulous creations. Unfortunately the river needs a little more water to successfully sail on so I took them to our local pond instead. More in my IG stories
Gotta love a child's creativity.
Hello, this is me! Creator behind the Blue Barn, I was nominated by @julialinsteadt to share 20 things about me, so here we go. I am meant to tag someone but really I'd like to read 20 facts about all of you so if you choose to write up 20 fun facts about yourself tag me on it and I'll pop over to your account if it's not private and read all about you too.
Anyway here we go:
1- I always choose caramel ice cream
2 - I went to boarding school as a teenager and learnt far more than I got credit for. I will never send my kids!
3 - I grew up in Wales, but have lived in the US for the past 20 years
4 - I love tea it's how I start every day, I hate coffee (it makes my heart race)
5 - I used to want to be a detective
6 - If given a choice I'd normally stay home I'm a complete recluse
7 - I dislike telephone conversations and changing rooms in equal amounts
8 - I think valentines is a complete waste of money but please send me flowers any other day of the year, sunflowers are my favorite
9 - My maiden name was 'Bond' doesn't get much cooler than that
10 - I'm a converse not heels kinda girl
11 - One summer when I was about 12 I put posters all around town advertising historical tours. My mum fielded calls for weeks from tourists asking what times the buses ran and had to explain the tour was actually her daughter on a bicycle towing a contraption she'd created from a milk crate and a skate board. It did not pass health and safety guidelines and my mother was my only customer.
12 - My perfect day involves a campfire on the beach
13 - My favorite animals are ducks 🦆
14 - I've seen Mary Poppins about a million times
15 - I once served tea to Bono from U2
16 - My most interesting past job was working with the perfumers of Estée Lauder
17 - I love the smell of lilacs
18 - I can't watch scary movies they terrify me afterwards for weeks
19 - I also have a completely irrational fear of caterpillars, it's a long story
20 - If I could do anything I'd love to pack my kids up and take them traveling around the world for a year or so I think they'd learn more than they could in school .

Oh happy Sunday and time to join in with the @ohcreativeday and #4thingsilove after a super busy couple of weeks today has been a perfect lazy day and I'm thankful for:
After a week of rain we are having a gorgeous warm sunny spring day. Getting things done outdoors and dreaming of summer yard projects. Always exciting after being stuck in all winter.
My girls have been busy working away at their fairy garden, we began it together when they were tiny but these days they pretty much maintain it themselves. I'm hopeful my girls will enjoy magical places like this forever.
My 12 year olds addition today is the pictured gorgeous hanging home for fairies. Made from a metal tin, she built the door onto a layer of popsicle sticks using fake moss and birch bark. I picked her up a little bundle of miniature fairy accessories for her birthday and she added a few here. This project was 100% her working alone in the barn. I'm so amazed by her creativity I want to go and make my own but it won't be as sweet. Thankful for growing creative minds.
Tea and cake
Finishing the day sat in the sun with a nice cuppa tea and cake made by my other daughter. Yummy and the perfect end to a perfect day.
Hoping yours was filled with sunshine, magic, creativity and cake like mine!

Wishing my mum and all the other British Mothers out there a 'mice mothers day' hope it's filled with joy and a little peace.
A few finger printed mice by my little guy. We've been enjoying the book "let's make some great fingerprint art" by #MarionDeuchars. So many creative invitations to get kids thinking of fun ways to use their fingerprints. Lots of creature making going on for the #getcreativewith creature books challenge this week.
