When the temps go from almost 80 to 40 in a couple days time, I don't know what more you could expect from me. Also? It's the weekend.
Sometimes grace upon grace looks like coffee in this mug... other times it looks like a #glutenfree chocolate chip cookie. Here's the yummy recipe if you need a little grace in your afternoon: http://glutenfreejess.com/2016/02/23/paleo-chocolate-chip-mug-cookie/ #fairtradefashionistascook
One way we're celebrating #internationalwomensday here is by introducing my son to a loom. This is traditionally a "woman's work" especially in places like Guatemala where I've had the privilege to visit. You know what's awesome? Those Guatemalan women artisans and business owners are empowered and respected, and often make more money than the men in their communities thanks to #fairtrade business opportunities. You know what I find maybe even a little more awesome? The opportunity for my kids to see past labels/stereotypes so that both my son and my daughter can use whatever gifts and talents God has given them to be change makers in this world. Also, I hope that introducing them to such things will cultivate an admiration for ALL people, cultures and traditions. #trainthemup
My friend @jessicahonegger is so good at calling things out and dealing with them. She's even called me to the floor a few times - when I've needed it - and rather than get offended by it, I recognize that she does this because she wants the best for me. So when she encourages you (and the other thousands of her followers on IG) to embrace some tensions, you do it. Because you know it's going to bring some freedom to you and possibly others who may see it and come along...sloppy handwriting and misspellings and all.
My personality is one that sees both sides easily. The lie I can sometimes believe about myself is that I'm a hypocrite when the truth is that life is complicated and we're all multidimensional people, created in the Image of a multidimensional God. I can live in the tensions of #choosingand while being like my friend Jessica, and encourage others to do the same. What are some of yours?
When you accidentally-on-purpose buy a new pair of shoes... Dorothy and her ruby red slippers have got nothing on me! Like what you see?? Head over to @therootcollective to check their new Spring launch! These d'orsay flats received a major upgrade from previous seasons and are LEGIT. Use SPRING17 for 20% off through Monday!! #fairtradefashion#bcorp#shoes
#slavery has many forms and names, but it’s still slavery. And it’s still wrong. Can you imagine being forced to work without pay, trapped, unable to walk away, subject to violence or the threat of violence, by another person as they control you? Own you? Isolated, yet hidden in plain sight. This is reality for those trapped in slavery today. Slavery is illegal in every single country in the world. Yet it still exists. Join in @enditmovement to bring awareness, prevention, rescue, and restoration. If not you, then who?

Did you hear that Noonday's Spring Collection just launched today? It's my 11th season and fifth year as an Ambassador and I'm still so excited to partner with hostesses to help create local marketplaces for our artisan partners. We have some beautiful new pieces that I'm honored to share at the link in profile. These Mystique earrings will be great with a tank or tee as the weather warms up. A great statement for only $32. And I love the Borderland necklace pictured here. It's a multi layer masterpiece that's perfect for the woman who wants to look put together without having to think about what to ACTUALLY put together. The work has been done for you! Both pieces are made fairly in India, creating work for hundreds of artisans. #fairtrade
Local to #raleigh and looking for an evening of fun and inspiration (with amazing shopping thrown in)!? Come join me at Holy Trinity Anglican Church on FRIDAY. I'll have gobs of discounted noonday collection samples for sale and would just love to hang out with you. #comeonecomeall#fairtrade#ethicalshopping
@mangoandmain has a pretty sweet sale going right now! Those Peruvian pillows and Ethiopian dish towels have me There's also the chance for free shipping if you spend $50 (which, lets be honest, will be no problem)!
I'm a total product junkie and I also love to tell friends when I find the good stuff. So here's my face cleansing, moisturizing and beautifying faves.
After doing whole30 I found out that dairy is not my friend. My skin really freaks out when I eat it now. Unfortunately, I sometimes am willing to count the cost - like when eating no bake cookies that have both milk AND butter in them. I went on a bender a few weeks ago (thanks to an ice storm that left us homebound for 5 days) and ate alllllll the cookies. These two products @alaffia skin recovery facial cleanser and @consciouscoconut coconut oil for a moisturizer - both certified #fairtrade - saved the day. I've also been adding liquid probiotics to the coconut oil thanks to the recommendation of a friend. It's really helped! My beautifying products are all "safe" meaning they're made with the highest quality ingredients and no known carcinogens. I love @beautycounter and @tartecosmetics - Especially their BB tinted moisturizer and makeup palettes. A little @burtsbeesus lip tint and @everydayminerals concealer to round it all out. Only takes me about 5 minutes since I've majorly scaled back on how much I buy. Quality over quantity!
What's in your make up bag? Fave tips and tricks? (Makeup bag is my all time fave from @mangoandmain and holds it all plus shower toiletries when I travel.) #fairtradefashionistasbeauty

Today's the big ribbon cutting day for my girl Emily @theflourishmarket !! If you're in #raleigh - her shop is a must! And, in true Em fashion, she's giving 10% discounts if you bring in full size toiletry products for @wakecountyarmy (Regram photo from them). I've heard there's live music and drinks this evening 6-9pm. #ethicalfashion
Here's to conquering the world (today at least).
:: a place of refuge or rest, a place where you can feel at peace or the holiest part of a temple or a church :: This word, and the whole idea of it, has been on my heart for months. I want my home, my relationships and even MY SELF, to be consecrated as places of sanctuary - where safety, rest, peace and restoration are found.
Do you have a word of the year? What's yours?? #wordoftheyear#enneagram9#thepeacemaker
Reflecting on 2016 this morning, and Noonday Collection sent out the most amazing email! If you missed it, take a look via the link in profil. It's a peek at the IMPACT Noonday Collection purchases have made around the world in 2016! Crazy awesome!! If you've been a part of this life-changing work by hosting or purchasing in 2016 -- THANK YOU!! If you want to be a part of it, there's still time to make an even BIGGER impact for 2016! I am about $2800 from my personal impact goal for the year and would LOVE for you to shop Noonday in these final three days of 2016! Ten percent of sales will be donated to Ijm for #dressember... Maybe a little Christmas cash you're itching to spend? Shop early for Valentine's Day? Maybe even grab a gift card to be ready to shop the beautiful spring 2017 line coming in February? I'm grateful for EVERY SINGLE PURCHASE because of the work that it provides around the world -- and for the impact it makes for our family (especially because it allows me the opportunity to be generous to others. I was able to donate over $1k to adoptive families this year alone thanks to y'all who hosted and supported your friends who are choosing adoption as a way to grow their families.) www.brandimendenhall.noondaycollection.com
Holding on tight for our 19th Christmas together... hope your holidays are filled with love, friends. #merrychristmas
Introducing the kids to Yente tonight. #fiddlerontheroof
what's some of your favorite classics?
I love women who uplift and encourage one another and that's lucky for me because I am surrounded by them!! Always love hitting up my favorite #ethicalfashion store @theflourishmarket in #raleigh The owner is the fabulous and funny one in the middle here. If you're local, you MUST go check out her shop and chat her up. You'll leave with a pep in your step you didn't have before - and possibly even with new clothes - not in your bag, but on your very person. (That happened to me today.) Loved visiting with my long time friend @shoodsc today too!
Thankful the Floridian sun hooked me up with highlights last month and @everlong_artistry took care of cutting and styling it today. Local friends should check @theglosserie (and ask for Brittany G🏼)
#youcandoanythinginadress including walking the dog in the cold rain in the dark of night.
day 5 of #dressember and the total funds raised are over $360k. This money will fund rescues through @ijm and @a21 -two of the most reputable anti-human trafficking organizations in the world. Human trafficking is a criminal business that profits from enslaving people for sexual servitude and forced labor. It is the fastest growing and second largest criminal industry in the world today (second only to drug trafficking and tied with illegal arms), according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Your donations and pledges to become #freedomfighters help put an end to these atrocities that are happening all over the world, including right in your own back yard. #itsbiggerthanadress
Winding down day 4 of #dressember. I've put my kids to bed a bit early... they're all settled in warmly and safely and I can't help but consider some of the statistics that are driving the momentum of #dressember. It's estimated that every 30 seconds, someone becomes a victim of human trafficking. Only 1-2% of these victims are rescued, and the average age of a victim is 12 years old. That's rough and I'd be remiss to not contrast my own life against those stats: There's a whole lots of mamas out there who don't get the satisfaction of putting their kids to bed in a safe warm home.
So, this #Dressember, help us change these statistics. It's not too late to join as a participant to bring awareness. Or, perhaps you'd like to donate. You can donate directly to my Dressember fund, or even better, you can become a Freedom Partner with @ijm and give on a regular basis to make sure that human slavery ENDS in our lifetime. #itsbiggerthanadress
When your sassy 7 year old poses you, you just go with it. These are our "cool girl" poses. I'm not sure what that means in her mind right now but I know what I hope it'll mean at some point. I hope she'll know that it's ALWAYS cool to lend any privilege or influence we have to work on behalf of someone who doesn't have the same. I hope some day she'll remember our talks about young girls who don't have the choices she has... simple things like attending school or marrying for love (should she so choose) or even being deemed worthy of love, care and concern. I hope she'll remember this as a bonding experience: "that time" we committed to wearing dresses (or skirts) for a month - and documenting it - to raise money for @ijm
It's way more than a dress and I hope to show you that along the way. Our fundraising link in is this profile or if you'd like to join us on this mission and use YOUR influence for good, you can do that through the link as well. #dressember#morethanadress#thefairtradefashionistasteam

2016 has been a bear but as we are coming into the homestretch, I have to say I'm thankful: for the friends, family, the bright spots along the way. I'm also thankful for the harder parts because without a little adversity and trial, we won't grow and mature. And that's a lifelong goal. So hugs and kisses to all! May you go to bed this evening with hearts full of thanks made evident by lives full of giving. #spoonlily print
I'm a 9 on the #enneagram so I'm a peacemaking empath who "merges" with those around me and easily sees both sides of the coin and buries my own anger. (I do have a strong 8 wing so I suspect that when I recover from all of this, I'll be ready to bust some up tho.) Can I just say this week has been rough? I know it's been rough for us all. I'm still clinging to hope that what doesn't kill us makes us stronger and there will be beauty from ashes.
What are y'all doing to increase your peace? I've been walking my dog in the most nature filled places and enjoying the beauty of Fall. And listening to awesome podcasts while doing it. #theroadbacktoyou
Hats off to our girl, Shannon, as she starts her very own adventure with @mangoandmain 🏼 You may still see her around here occasionally but her heart is set on bringing more #fairtrade finds to her hometown of #Annapolis and increasing partnerships for artisans. I expect to see great things and I'm personally so glad that she's determined to do this! I know it will be with all the class and grace (and organization and spreadsheets and the list goes on) she's shown me over the years we've worked together.
We've technically closed up the shop through the blog but you can go shop www.mangoandmain.com for some great - carefully curated - artisan made finds!
Shoutout to our girl @abby3131 on the launch of her #fairtrade brand @zuricollection_ !! Loving the skirts and the leather wrap bracelet is 🏼 Congrats Abby!!! Go check it out, friends!
