It's #worldelephantday an international annual event dedicated to the preservation and protection of the world's elephants. I saw these majestic creatures in the wild last year while in Uganda and have tried to learn so much more about them and their plight. African elephants are on the vulnerable population list thanks primarily to poaching for their ivory tusks. I just heard yesterday that we lose approximately 35,000 elephants a year and at that rate, they could be extinct in 10 years. I'll be honest, I cried when I heard that statistic. I've learned too much about the gift of empathy these creatures possess, their complex grieving behaviors, their strong social networks, to accept that they could go extinct on our watch. For any purchase made from @noondaycollection Fall line through my website, I will donate 10% of the purchase price to @worldelephantday and for any purchase from the Uganda pieces, I'll donate 20% of purchase price. #shopwithpurpose and help #savetheelephants http://brandimendenhall.noondaycollection.com (link in profile)

Summers are for reading... we've made some strict deals with the kids that are directly correlated to reading logs. The plus is that I get to read too! I received an advance copy of #ChurchOfTheSmallThings - the newest book from @melanieshankle You know you've found a good book when the intro goes in to the Bible story of the boy with 5 loaves and 2 fish - only it's not about the boy, or even Jesus really, but the boy's mama. About her faithfulness and diligence in doing the small and simple thing of packing her kid's lunch. How life isn't about the glamorous things - the "instagram worthy" moments - but about the smallest most ordinary acts of daily faithfulness. "We can spend so much time wondering and worrying if we're fulfilling God's primary will for our lives. Yet, ultimately, God's will isn't about the things we achieve; it's about the people we become." This book is an easy read (quick, engaging chapters and hilarious recollections that are so relatable). If you need a little affirmation about the simple things and assurance that your IG feed or Facebook reel doesn't have to appear that you're living an epic adventure of a life, you can pre-order this ebook today at all major online retailers for only $4.99. (Today only)
What good books are you reading?
What a joy and privilege to have #localartist@eleattadiver spend a week with my kids!! These three dimensional casts were the pièce de résistance of the week. She patiently walked them through each step of the way over 5 days to create lasting art. (Samuel is planning to pass his lion down for generations! ) I highly recommend her #artcamp for kids - she also does adult camps, classes, team building, etc and commissioned pieces.
If "deep calls to deep" Eleatta is an artist who calls to the inner artist within each person, no matter whether they "feel" artsy or not, and helps them create beyond their expectation. www.eleatta.com #durhamart#supportlocal#art
It's #worldfairtradeday today and #mothersday tomorrow. I've been reflecting on the power of #fairtrade in the lives of Mothers around the world. #fairwages means full bellies, kids in school, access to healthcare and housing. #fairhours means that mama's get to work and be home with their families. #fairtreatment means that women are valued in their communities, often overcoming patriarchal systems, abusive relationships, sexual abuse and on and on and on. #fairtrade should be celebrated the whole world over EVERY day. If we can all live in that space of loving our neighbors as ourselves; helping to create opportunities for every mother to have access to jobs that provide for what we'd want for our own mothers, sisters, daughters, friends - what a wonderful world that would be. Your purchasing dollars matter and so do your choices. Shop wisely! Imagine a world where we remained conscious of this truth: the immense glory contained in each and every immortal being... the ones we come in contact with and the ones we don't.
This my challenge to myself: be present. Live aware. Love. Respect. Honor. We're all just walking each other home.
Thanks for this reminder @amaniyajuu and for practicing what you preach! #Repost@amaniyajuu with @repostapp
"There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal... it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploit." ⠀

We are all created by God, in love, for his glory and our peace. Even if we've never met them, the person who sews our clothes, builds our cell phones, or picks our vegetables has infinite worth and deserves honor. When we live out of this conviction, all our interactions with others take on a new weight and joy! ⠀ #quoteoftheday#inspirationalquotes#amaniyajuu#peacefromabove
There's a person behind every single thing we buy. Seriously. Our food - somebody has to plant and pick. Our homes - somebody has to cut timber, build, finish it. Our clothes - people harvest the materials, cut, sew, etc.
When you really stop to think about how interconnected we are as humans, you can't help but think about how our choices impact lives around the world. To highlight #fashionrevolution Week, I want to introduce you to the beautiful woman pictured here, Grace. She's a daughter and friend. She's also a survivor of the Rwandan genocide where 1,000,000 people were killed in 100 days. One of that million was her dad. She's witnessed many sad and horrible things but she's also witnessed beauty and redemption and isn't even a little bit bitter about her past - She's excited and thankful for her present and future. You know why? In part because she embodies the Grace she's named for but also because she has a good paying job as a seamstress. She works with @umucyosewingcooperative and she makes bags that my dear friend Shannon sells over @mangoandmain I LOVE the garden tote and have one coming my way soon! You should head over to @mangoandmain (link in profile) and do a little shopping where you can find out the name of the artisan who makes every piece Shannon sells. Because the reality is EVERY product we buy really does have a person behind it. And every person has a story. A past. A present. A future. Let's help give them futures full of hope by purchasing #fairtrade that insists upon #fairwages (among many other benefits). It's what you'd hope for yourself, so Grace and all the other makers deserve it too. 🤜🏼🤛🏾 @mangoandmain offers #wholesale opportunities too!
When the temps go from almost 80 to 40 in a couple days time, I don't know what more you could expect from me. Also? It's the weekend.
Sometimes grace upon grace looks like coffee in this mug... other times it looks like a #glutenfree chocolate chip cookie. Here's the yummy recipe if you need a little grace in your afternoon: http://glutenfreejess.com/2016/02/23/paleo-chocolate-chip-mug-cookie/ #fairtradefashionistascook
One way we're celebrating #internationalwomensday here is by introducing my son to a loom. This is traditionally a "woman's work" especially in places like Guatemala where I've had the privilege to visit. You know what's awesome? Those Guatemalan women artisans and business owners are empowered and respected, and often make more money than the men in their communities thanks to #fairtrade business opportunities. You know what I find maybe even a little more awesome? The opportunity for my kids to see past labels/stereotypes so that both my son and my daughter can use whatever gifts and talents God has given them to be change makers in this world. Also, I hope that introducing them to such things will cultivate an admiration for ALL people, cultures and traditions. #trainthemup
My friend @jessicahonegger is so good at calling things out and dealing with them. She's even called me to the floor a few times - when I've needed it - and rather than get offended by it, I recognize that she does this because she wants the best for me. So when she encourages you (and the other thousands of her followers on IG) to embrace some tensions, you do it. Because you know it's going to bring some freedom to you and possibly others who may see it and come along...sloppy handwriting and misspellings and all.
My personality is one that sees both sides easily. The lie I can sometimes believe about myself is that I'm a hypocrite when the truth is that life is complicated and we're all multidimensional people, created in the Image of a multidimensional God. I can live in the tensions of #choosingand while being like my friend Jessica, and encourage others to do the same. What are some of yours?
When you accidentally-on-purpose buy a new pair of shoes... Dorothy and her ruby red slippers have got nothing on me! Like what you see?? Head over to @therootcollective to check their new Spring launch! These d'orsay flats received a major upgrade from previous seasons and are LEGIT. Use SPRING17 for 20% off through Monday!! #fairtradefashion#bcorp#shoes
#slavery has many forms and names, but it’s still slavery. And it’s still wrong. Can you imagine being forced to work without pay, trapped, unable to walk away, subject to violence or the threat of violence, by another person as they control you? Own you? Isolated, yet hidden in plain sight. This is reality for those trapped in slavery today. Slavery is illegal in every single country in the world. Yet it still exists. Join in @enditmovement to bring awareness, prevention, rescue, and restoration. If not you, then who?

Did you hear that Noonday's Spring Collection just launched today? It's my 11th season and fifth year as an Ambassador and I'm still so excited to partner with hostesses to help create local marketplaces for our artisan partners. We have some beautiful new pieces that I'm honored to share at the link in profile. These Mystique earrings will be great with a tank or tee as the weather warms up. A great statement for only $32. And I love the Borderland necklace pictured here. It's a multi layer masterpiece that's perfect for the woman who wants to look put together without having to think about what to ACTUALLY put together. The work has been done for you! Both pieces are made fairly in India, creating work for hundreds of artisans. #fairtrade
Local to #raleigh and looking for an evening of fun and inspiration (with amazing shopping thrown in)!? Come join me at Holy Trinity Anglican Church on FRIDAY. I'll have gobs of discounted noonday collection samples for sale and would just love to hang out with you. #comeonecomeall#fairtrade#ethicalshopping
@mangoandmain has a pretty sweet sale going right now! Those Peruvian pillows and Ethiopian dish towels have me There's also the chance for free shipping if you spend $50 (which, lets be honest, will be no problem)!
I'm a total product junkie and I also love to tell friends when I find the good stuff. So here's my face cleansing, moisturizing and beautifying faves.
After doing whole30 I found out that dairy is not my friend. My skin really freaks out when I eat it now. Unfortunately, I sometimes am willing to count the cost - like when eating no bake cookies that have both milk AND butter in them. I went on a bender a few weeks ago (thanks to an ice storm that left us homebound for 5 days) and ate alllllll the cookies. These two products @alaffia skin recovery facial cleanser and @consciouscoconut coconut oil for a moisturizer - both certified #fairtrade - saved the day. I've also been adding liquid probiotics to the coconut oil thanks to the recommendation of a friend. It's really helped! My beautifying products are all "safe" meaning they're made with the highest quality ingredients and no known carcinogens. I love @beautycounter and @tartecosmetics - Especially their BB tinted moisturizer and makeup palettes. A little @burtsbeesus lip tint and @everydayminerals concealer to round it all out. Only takes me about 5 minutes since I've majorly scaled back on how much I buy. Quality over quantity!
What's in your make up bag? Fave tips and tricks? (Makeup bag is my all time fave from @mangoandmain and holds it all plus shower toiletries when I travel.) #fairtradefashionistasbeauty

Today's the big ribbon cutting day for my girl Emily @theflourishmarket !! If you're in #raleigh - her shop is a must! And, in true Em fashion, she's giving 10% discounts if you bring in full size toiletry products for @wakecountyarmy (Regram photo from them). I've heard there's live music and drinks this evening 6-9pm. #ethicalfashion
Here's to conquering the world (today at least).
:: a place of refuge or rest, a place where you can feel at peace or the holiest part of a temple or a church :: This word, and the whole idea of it, has been on my heart for months. I want my home, my relationships and even MY SELF, to be consecrated as places of sanctuary - where safety, rest, peace and restoration are found.
Do you have a word of the year? What's yours?? #wordoftheyear#enneagram9#thepeacemaker
Reflecting on 2016 this morning, and Noonday Collection sent out the most amazing email! If you missed it, take a look via the link in profil. It's a peek at the IMPACT Noonday Collection purchases have made around the world in 2016! Crazy awesome!! If you've been a part of this life-changing work by hosting or purchasing in 2016 -- THANK YOU!! If you want to be a part of it, there's still time to make an even BIGGER impact for 2016! I am about $2800 from my personal impact goal for the year and would LOVE for you to shop Noonday in these final three days of 2016! Ten percent of sales will be donated to Ijm for #dressember... Maybe a little Christmas cash you're itching to spend? Shop early for Valentine's Day? Maybe even grab a gift card to be ready to shop the beautiful spring 2017 line coming in February? I'm grateful for EVERY SINGLE PURCHASE because of the work that it provides around the world -- and for the impact it makes for our family (especially because it allows me the opportunity to be generous to others. I was able to donate over $1k to adoptive families this year alone thanks to y'all who hosted and supported your friends who are choosing adoption as a way to grow their families.) www.brandimendenhall.noondaycollection.com
Holding on tight for our 19th Christmas together... hope your holidays are filled with love, friends. #merrychristmas
Introducing the kids to Yente tonight. #fiddlerontheroof
what's some of your favorite classics?
I love women who uplift and encourage one another and that's lucky for me because I am surrounded by them!! Always love hitting up my favorite #ethicalfashion store @theflourishmarket in #raleigh The owner is the fabulous and funny one in the middle here. If you're local, you MUST go check out her shop and chat her up. You'll leave with a pep in your step you didn't have before - and possibly even with new clothes - not in your bag, but on your very person. (That happened to me today.) Loved visiting with my long time friend @shoodsc today too!
Thankful the Floridian sun hooked me up with highlights last month and @everlong_artistry took care of cutting and styling it today. Local friends should check @theglosserie (and ask for Brittany G🏼)

day 5 of #dressember and the total funds raised are over $360k. This money will fund rescues through @ijm and @a21 -two of the most reputable anti-human trafficking organizations in the world. Human trafficking is a criminal business that profits from enslaving people for sexual servitude and forced labor. It is the fastest growing and second largest criminal industry in the world today (second only to drug trafficking and tied with illegal arms), according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Your donations and pledges to become #freedomfighters help put an end to these atrocities that are happening all over the world, including right in your own back yard. #itsbiggerthanadress
