San Francisco you have been exactly what my soul needed.
Grateful for your existence and for moments like these.

5.15.12 Border Patrol enters the train; I awaken to a white man dressed in green, armed, weapon clipped onto his belt “ma’am what country are you a citizen of?” Without hesitation I responded, “America”, knowing full well his interpretation of “America” didn’t include what was south of the border, Kevin was pale; I responded for him and said we were both citizens. The man kept going down the isle, in my head scenarios of know your rights trainings kept flashing up, luckily they didn’t ask for papers. Border patrol agents had surrounded the Amtrak train at exactly 11:58 in Rochester, NY, 2 minutes before S-Comm was to be enforced and implemented in NY and MA, coincidence? That’s what were lead to believe, but its all part of an orchestrated tactic being used, to repress our civil liberties and our people.

My mom crossed the border before SCOMM, 287g, Arizona SB1070, the real ID Act, before heavy border militarization and to this day there are still parts of her journey that I don't know and am afraid to ask her about because she is still not ready to talk about them. She crossed by foot like so many others, and entered through San Diego. This picture was taken in the city where she came through meters from the border that she crossed. This ones for you mom.
My heart aches,
A deep sorrow,
Apa sometimes I wonder if your coming back, so I stay up waiting to hear that screeching timing belt nestle it's way back into our garage, because while most cuddle with their pillows-- I jump in and out of sleep cycles like a border crosser never really resting , never really pausing, never really belonging, hoping that the next time my phone rings it wont be immigration asking us for ransom money to bail you out, I guess these things don't just happen in Colombia do they? #undocumented
I was Jicarilla and you Caballo Blanco
This is your year boo, trust your journey.
"I am homesick for a place I am not sure even exists. One where my heart is full. My body loved and my soul understood."
If you look close enough you will find that the sun is in unexpected places.
Nothing quite beats getting caught by a summer downpour and unexpectedly finding a beautiful oasis nestled between oaks.
A bird is safe in its nest - but that is not what its wings are made for.

The earth is what we all have in common.
The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease for ever to be able to do it.

Watch her as she sways back and forth so effortlessly, her rhythms second nature. She doesn't know that when she sways, the beats she's dancing to are being played by my heart strings. She doesn't know her own beauty, but she is nature herself, the feeling of belonging, the feeling you get when you come home after a soul searching journey only to find that home was in front of you all along.
A couple more just to help close out this wintery chapter
